the highly anticipated 2024 uci women's world tour of chongming island will officially kick off on october 15, when 18 participating teams and 108 professional riders from all over the world will compete for a total mileage of 349.3 kilometers. during the three-day competition, the riders will travel through 17 towns in chongming district, passing by the yangtze river bridge, changxing island country park, lotus expo park, pearl lake park, shanghai sports training base and other landmarks and scenic spots, immersively experience the achievements of chongming ecological island construction, appreciate the beauty of chongming's countryside, ecology, and humanity, and feel the enthusiasm and hospitality of the people of shanghai.
the 2024 women's world tour will have 27 stops around the world, including 13 multi-day races in france, spain, italy, the united arab emirates, and australia. the women's world tour of chongming island is the only multi-day world tour race in chinese women's road cycling. at the event press conference held on september 20, feng baozhong, deputy director of the cycling and fencing management center of the general administration of sports of china and vice chairman of the chinese cycling association, introduced that the 2024 women's world tour of chongming island is at the same level as the famous tour de france, giro d'italia, and vuelta a españa. in the three-day competition, the first stage is the chongxi stage, with a total distance of 108.9 kilometers; the second stage is the chongdong stage, with a total distance of 129 kilometers; the third stage is the chongzhong stage and the city circuit race, with a total distance of 111.4 kilometers. feng baozhong said that according to the 2024 competition rules of the international union of international cycling, this event will consist of 4 women's world tour teams, 13 women's continental teams and 1 national team, with 108 participants. the 2023 team champion roland racing and the individual champion uad racing will continue to participate.

it is reported that this year's track still highlights chongming's natural environment and ecological advantages. the race will pass through the yangtze river bridge, chenjia town bicycle theme park, shanghai sports training base, dongtan wetland park, and xisha pearl lake scenic area, showing the world the new achievements of chongming's world-class ecological island. in recent years, chongming has continued to make efforts in the three major aspects of green ecology, green production, and green life, creating a national ecological civilization business card, setting a benchmark for the green development of the yangtze river, and leading the development of chongming's sports industry through event economy and promoting sports consumption. shi lei, deputy mayor of chongming district, said: "we will integrate the event with chongming's tourism resources. at that time, we will launch a bicycle carnival with the theme of 'ride to meet the beauty, leisurely chongming'. we will set up the qimiao sports field, qite car show, and yunshang market exhibition area to let more citizens and tourists feel the unique charm of cycling and continue to promote the tourism business card of 'chongming world-class ecological island'."
the event is hosted by the international cycling union, the general administration of sport of china, and the shanghai municipal people's government, and co-organized by the chinese cycling association, shanghai sports bureau, and chongming district people's government.
