while the protagonists in the first part of "the flag soldiers of guangdong and hong kong" were pure criminals, the three "flag soldiers" in the second part deviated from the traditional meaning. they just wanted to find a better living environment. each of them had extraordinary skills but ended up miserably, which made the audience at that time sigh.

the names of the characters jingsheng played by lam kwok-bun, xuejun played by yuan richu, and xiangdong played by xu jinjiang reveal the mainland's "temperament" of the time. the movie does not only show li xiangdong's personal heroism, but also gives jingsheng and xuejun a lot of roles.

jingsheng likes daquanzi's sister. his undercover identity is real, and his feelings are also real. this is destined to be a tragedy.

as a result, his identity was exposed during the decisive battle. he didn't want to kill the future "brother-in-law" in front of him, but xuejun wanted to kill him. when he supported the other party, the other party shot him before dying. they all died together, leaving only a crying girl.

what's even more sad is that since then, xu jinjiang has mostly appeared in villain or ruffian roles. however, it was "li xiangdong" in this movie and "mao xiangyang" in "the legend of the condor heroes 3" that best showcased xu jinjiang's style.

in addition, the second part brings together many villain actors from hong kong films, including huang zhiqiang, cheng kui-an, han yisheng, chen deguang, jiang long, etc. these characters surround "li xiangdong", further highlighting the heroic and majestic image of this former public security officer.

after jackie chan continued filming "police story: super cop", due to the enthusiastic response, golden harvest decided to shoot a "super plan". the female lead was still michelle yeoh, the male lead was replaced by yu rongguang, and the second male lead was zhou huajian.

but this one has a happy ending——

andy lau righteously told xu jinjiang that he was wronged and tried to show mercy several times. finally, xu jinjiang let andy lau go, and the male and female protagonists finally lived overseas.

this is the only good ending in the "provincial and hong kong flag soldiers" series.

it is also the last film in the series.

because when the third film was released in hong kong in 1989, not only did current events begin to change, but even gunfight films began to decline. hong kong audiences no longer liked to find satisfaction in describing the poor lives of mainlanders in hong kong. with 1997 approaching, many hong kong people began to worry about the future.

some other hong kong filmmakers have begun to tell the stories of family and country in their films, such as "all's well, ends well". they usually set up one or two negative characters and then denounced the other party as "not chinese". old hong kong people are also sensitive to the contradictions in their perception of the motherland, so luo dayou once mentioned "horse racing" and "comrades" in "queen's road east". it can be seen that the principle of "things smell good from a distance and smell bad near" applies to any relationship.

the third part of the "provincial and hong kong flag soldiers" series contains too many spoofs and prejudices, so i don't plan to tell it, or i will start a new story if i have the chance in the future.

the changing image of the hong kong police force in hong kong films is also worth exploring. for example, the police in the "hong kong police" series resorted to lynching and used undercover agents for clues. these behaviors cannot be said to be completely fabricated. in the gray area, many things are difficult to judge.
