on september 17, the russian federal security service (fsb) announced that it had killed a ukrainian agent who attempted to launch an attack in sverdlovsk oblast.

the fsb said in a statement that the suspect is a russian citizen born in 1984, an agent of the ukrainian defense ministry's main intelligence directorate (gur) and a member of a ukrainian nationalist organization.

it is reported that the suspect made an improvised explosive device under the instructions of his superiors in kiev, intending to use it to blow up the car of a senior employee of a defense enterprise. the suspect was found hiding the explosive device, according to reports. the fsb said the man shot at law enforcement officers and was subsequently shot dead. a pistol loaded with ammunition, a high-powered radio-controlled improvised explosive device and a communication tool for the suspect to communicate with kiev, including letters that proved that he was preparing to launch a terrorist attack, were left at the scene.
