guangdong's flower, tree, bonsai and gardening industry has become a multi-billion-dollar industry
from september 12 to 13, the 2024 lingnan science forum series of activities - the "rural revitalization and high-quality development forum of flower and tree bonsai industry" and the "lingnan master" (bonsai) skill competition, bonsai, elegant stone, and pot exhibition were held at the guangdong science museum and guangzhou cultural park respectively. this is the first time that the topic of the bonsai industry has been included in the lingnan science forum. the forum focuses on the current situation and development trends of the bonsai industry, talent training, and scientific and technological innovation.
it is reported that the flower and tree bonsai horticulture industry is a dominant industry in guangdong province. according to the survey and analysis of the flower industry in the province by the guangdong flower association, the planting area of bonsai in guangdong province in 2020 was 3,790.8 hectares, with direct sales of 1.42 billion yuan. lingnan bonsai enjoys a high reputation in the world. in the past decade, the export of guangdong bonsai has been ranked among the top three in the country. according to industry monitoring, the sales of bonsai will reach 2 billion yuan in 2022.
at the forum, bonsai experts gave keynote speeches and held academic exchanges and discussions on topics such as "prospects for the internationalization of lingnan bonsai", "current situation and development ideas of china's bonsai industry", "theoretical basis and inheritance and innovation of chinese bonsai", and "development trends of the lingnan bonsai industry".
hao jifeng, secretary general of the bonsai branch of the china flower association, said that the current bonsai industry has many problems, such as the obvious phenomenon of "sideline", the gap in the "industry chain" and the "specialization" of talents. he proposed to establish a collaborative community for the entire bonsai industry chain, strengthen cooperation between enterprises, and use the internet to establish a bonsai big data platform, use a systematic and data-based approach to guide production and sales, and reduce the blindness of industrial development.
during the forum, a series of activities including a "lingnan master craftsmen" (bonsai) skills competition, bonsai, potted utensil, stone appreciation works exhibition, skills competition, and work auction will be held in guangzhou cultural park. the purpose is to further promote chinese traditional culture, highlight cultural confidence, promote the high-quality development of the bonsai industry, assist in rural revitalization, and pay tribute to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the people's republic of china.
at present, the bonsai industry base in guangdong province has initially formed a professional, large-scale and technological bonsai cluster, and has become a domestically renowned full-industry chain base for small and micro bonsai planting, export, material production and supply. small bonsai has gathered into a tens-billion-dollar industry, and the bonsai industry has become an important rural industry that enriches the people and a tree of wealth that drives farmers' income and improves agricultural efficiency.
