the phone is placed in the gift box in an unfolded form by default, and looks like a tablet.in fact, its screen is 10.2 inches, which has reached the size specifications of mainstream tablets, but once you pick it up you will find that it is really thin.

excluding the camera part, the rest of the body is only 3.6mm thick, and the weight of the whole phone does not even exceed 300g. it is definitely light and thin among tablets of the same size. holding this phone with both hands is completely stress-free.

and maybe because of the different force-bearing area, it feels even lighter and thinner in my hand than those folding devices that weigh just over 200g.

of course, compared to the appearance, many friends may be most concerned about—— huawei has put so much effort into making this tri-fold phone. what improvements will it bring to our daily mobile experience?

first of all, don’t be fooled by the fact that it is a tri-fold phone. in fact, it can bring three different screen forms, namely single screen, dual screen and triple screen. that’s right, its two hinges do not have to be fully unfolded, but one of the hinges can be selectively unfolded.

there is not much to say about the fully folded state. in single-screen mode, this 6.4-inch screen is no different from an ordinary candy-bar phone:

but as long as you flip it outward and open one of the screens, it becomes a dual-screen form, just like the current double-folding mobile phones, the screen increases from 6.4 inches to 7.9 inches, and the icons and pictures will automatically adjust accordingly:

however, when we first started using it, my colleagues and i were a little uncomfortable with it, because the hinges of ordinary bi-fold phones are on the left, and to open the inner screen, we just need to flip the outer screen outwards.and it has hinges on both sides, so you have to think about which side to flip it over before you turn it over.

because it has two inner screens, one is folded inwards and the other is folded outwards, you have to think about which screen corresponds to which folding method. if you accidentally fold one upside down, the screen may be broken. but fortunately, you can get used to it after using it for a while:

to be honest, the technical difficulty of making a tri-fold mobile phone is indeed much greater than that of a bi-fold mobile phone.

the most difficult part is the coordination between the hinge and the screen. one of the two screens folds outwards and the other folds inwards, which is bound to make the stress of the entire screen very large. the outer folding part must resist stretching, and the inner folding part must resist extrusion. the hinge structure is bound to be greatly changed.

at the press conference, dazui said that for the first time they have achieved the integration of inward and outward folding of the hinge system, with dual-track linkage.

when i was experiencing the opening and closing of the mate xt, i felt that the hinge had indeed been carefully tuned. whether it was the hinge responsible for outward turning or the hinge responsible for inward folding, their damping was just right. opening the phone to look at it really felt like reviewing memorials.

in order to make the screen more durable, huawei also used the same non-newtonian fluid technology as the mate x5 on this phone, and its screen material was also changed from the original plastic film to ugt glass. in theory, the impact and scratch resistance will be stronger.

i also tried scratching it with my fingernails and a pencil, and there was indeed no mark left. to be honest, huazi does have some skills!

moreover, the screen resolution is as high as 3k, and the display effect it brings is beyond words. the crease is more obvious at certain angles, but it can be easily ignored when viewed from the front.it can be said that in large-screen mode, the experience brought by this phone is no different from that of an ordinary tablet.

for example, native apps like huawei music, weather, calculator, and memo are in tablet mode by default when they are opened.

the layout of third-party apps like xiaohongshu and wps that have been adapted is also quite reasonable, which can be said to make full use of this large screen.from 30% fold to 20% fold, and then to 10% fold, the program interface will even change accordingly.

when some apps are first opened, there are large black borders on both sides, but once you click on the secondary menu, the system's built-in parallel vision mode will automatically decouple and split the screens. the operating efficiency is indeed much higher than that of traditional candy-bar phones.

why should your next tablet be a tablet?

in addition, like the previous folding screens, the mate xt hinge also supports multi-angle hovering, which means that in addition to single screen, dual screens and triple screens, you can also fold one of the screens in half and use it as a stand. the system can automatically adapt when it detects this state.

however, my review is that it is possible but not necessary, because the phone case it comes with comes with a bracket that supports 270° rotation.

in addition, its screen has a 16:11 ratio. you should know that almost all large bi-fold screens on the market tend to be square when unfolded. there is a chance that part of the screen will be cropped when playing games, and there will be large black borders when watching videos, so i always feel that the large screen is wasted.

this ratio does not have this problem, so it definitely deserves a thumbs up!

to be honest, the gaming experience with three screens is really good, because it is relatively light, and the screen ratio is close to 16:9, so the overall experience is much better than playing directly with a tablet:

however, one thing to note is that the refresh rate of the mate xt screen is not 120hz but 90hz, but this is most likely for power saving considerations.

this time, huawei equipped the mate xt with a 5600mah battery, which is definitely large for a folding screen. the key is that it made the battery 1.9mm, which is said to be the thinnest in the world, and it also supports 66w wired fast charging and 50w wireless charging, which is outrageous...

we also did a simple round of testing here.

ten minutes of 4k movie playback + ten minutes of browsing xiaohongshu + ten minutes of honor of kings, the three screens consumed 10% of the power, while the single screen only consumed 5%. it can be seen that the three screens do consume more power than the single screen. in the three-screen state, its battery life is conservatively estimated to be about five hours.

to be honest, i originally thought that since it is a tri-fold phone, some imaging would definitely be sacrificed in order to take the hand feel into consideration, but i really didn't expect that the imaging configuration of this phone is actually quite good.

it is equipped with a 50-megapixel variable aperture main camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, which also supports macro. huawei even gave it a 5.5x periscope telephoto camera. in terms of focal length coverage alone, it is no worse than the straight-screen flagship.

of course, due to the limited space in the body, the specifications of each of its cameras are slightly weaker. for example, the sensor used in its main camera is 1/1.56 inches in size, which is much smaller than the 1-inch main camera on the pura 70 ultra, but it is definitely enough for daily recording.
