on september 9, the jeanswest huang gang 2025 spring/summer show with the theme of "cultural heritage, duntou blue, cat-headed lion" was unveiled at the china international fashion week. the clothing pattern was based on the image of the "cat-headed lion", an intangible cultural heritage of guangdong province, and superimposed with intangible cultural heritage and technological elements, bringing a visual feast to the audience.
what is less known is that the innovative use of the "duntou blue" and "maotou lion" intangible cultural heritage of heping county, heyuan city, guangdong province in the clothing design of the china fashion week is another manifestation of huizhou university's integration of resources and deepening of the "double hundred action". it is also a co-construction action with the heping county party committee and county government to promote the "hundred million project".
in august 2023, guangdong province launched the "100 schools linking 100 counties to support the 'hundred million project'" campaign, aiming to promote the pairing and co-construction between 100 universities and research institutes in the province and 100 agricultural-related counties (cities, districts) through an organized, systematic and project-based approach.
in accordance with the principle of "what the county needs and what the university can do", huizhou university took the initiative to join hands with shenzhen polytechnic university to connect with huidong county, huizhou city and heping county, heyuan city, giving full play to the university's advantages in science and technology, talents and intelligence, and through in-depth cooperation with local governments and enterprises, fully stimulate the development vitality of the paired counties and help local economic and social development. this "cultural heritage continuation·duntou blue·owl lion" series of works release conference is one of the phased results of huizhou university and heping county's two-way efforts to implement the "double hundred action" school-local co-construction.
it is reported that as the leading unit of this project, huizhou university, relying on its own fashion design engineering major and talent advantages, has linked up with jeanswest, a deep school-enterprise cooperation company, to continue to dig deep into the local traditional cultural resources of the co-constructed county. by combining modern art with intangible cultural heritage skills, traditional culture is integrated into fashion design, and the "duntou blue" and "cat-head lion" series of works are designed.
the clothing for this conference was carefully designed by huang gang, the best menswear designer of 2023. huang gang pointed out that in the current era of knowledge and information overflow, new technology helps the intangible cultural heritage to "sprout new buds on old trees", providing unlimited possibilities for the innovative development of china's excellent traditional culture and clothing industry. the innovative design of the traditional cultural element "cat-headed lion" pattern and pattern of the fashion show this time incorporates the designer's tracing of the roots of traditional culture, understanding of national trends and confidence in culture, injecting contemporary life into the intangible cultural heritage traditional skills such as "duntou blue" and "cat-headed lion", exuding the unique charm of intangible cultural heritage that penetrates the ancient and the present.
