on june 14, 2024, the people's procuratorate of xinwu district, wuxi city, prosecuted zhang and sun for suspected copyright infringement. from the end of 2017 to january 2023, zhang, sun and others organized their employees to develop and operate a number of film and television works aggregation apps such as "film and television collection pure edition" and "today's film and television", and affiliated the above apps with six shell companies such as network technology, which was actually controlled by zhang. during this period, zhang, sun and others, in order to obtain illegal profits, without the permission of copyright owners such as iqiyi and youku, "downloaded and uploaded" popular audio-visual works to their rented cloud storage servers, or purchased third-party technical analysis services (also known as "intercepted streaming" and "hotlinking"), and spread them in the apps they developed, and then collected advertising fees. they played 83,000 works on the film and television app they developed, and collected more than 392 million yuan in advertising fees. the court ruled at the first instance: zhang was sentenced to five years and six months in prison and a fine of 20 million yuan for copyright infringement; sun was sentenced to three years in prison and a fine of 4 million yuan for the same crime.
what exactly do these illegal websites mean by "stream interception and playback" and "stealing links" to obtain videos? one is to search for resources from the internet and download and upload them to cloud storage or stream interception and playback; the other is to crack the video source address of mainstream domestic video websites, dig out "deep links", and play them without watching the original website's advertisements. both of these methods are copyright infringement crimes.
zhang and others spread other people's works through "deep links" and other forms, devouring the advertising revenue of film and television companies and encroaching on the bandwidth of film and television companies. in essence, they also infringed on others' right to disseminate their works through the information network.
as a viewer, when you encounter this kind of "drama-chasing artifact", you must not support it and must not encourage the trend of "stealing links". we still have to support originality and copyright!
