live broadcast on september 8th, england defeated ireland 2-0 in the uefa nations league. after the game, england's interim coach lee carsley was interviewed

lee carsley said:

‘i thought there were parts of the game that were good. you saw some of the things we tried to do. the lads deserve a lot of credit, all the credit goes to them. i thought we showed real talent and we’re really happy with the clean sheet.

“i thought they (rice and grealish) scored really well. they worked well together and shot well. i think going forward, they can score more goals in the game.

“grealish doesn’t really have anything to prove to us, we can see the quality he has, but it was a big plus for him today – another goal for england and hopefully he can keep going like this.

“on a very dry and sticky surface, not ideal for dribblers, but i thought gordon was a real threat. he continued his form from last season and looked a very dangerous player.

“i think you have to give some credit to ireland as well, they were very tenacious and closed up the spaces, and our spaces probably became a little bit wider in the second half. we found it a little bit difficult to get past them but at 2-0 we were pretty comfortable.
