it home reported on september 7 that after a turbulent summer, boeing's "starliner" left the international space station at 6:04 pm eastern time on friday, september 6 (6:04 am beijing time on september 7) without astronauts on board, and began its solo return journey.

it home checked nasa's official website and found that the "starliner" will deorbit and burn at 23:17 pm eastern time (11:17 am beijing time on september 7) and land by parachute at the white sands space harbor in new mexico 6 hours later.

starliner launched on june 5 on its first crewed mission, carrying nasa astronauts suni williams and butch wilmore to the international space station.

the spacecraft capsule successfully docked with the space station a day later, but the starliner suffered several helium leaks and five of the 28 reaction control system thrusters failed.

the starliner mission, known as the crew flight test (cft), was originally scheduled to last about 10 days. however, as nasa and boeing investigated the thruster issue, they kept extending the spacecraft's orbital stay to understand the cause of the malfunction and assess whether it could recur during the starliner's return trip to earth.
