according to reports, since submitting the first chinese patent in 1995, huawei has continued to disclose a large number of innovative achievements to the industry through patents, standards and open source. huawei's newly disclosed patents reached 36,000 in 2023. by the end of 2023, huawei's cumulative public patents had exceeded 336,000; the open source code submitted by openharmony community co-builders has exceeded 110 million lines. in march this year, huawei joined the world intellectual property organization green technology (wipo green) platform.
edward kwakwa, assistant director-general of the world intellectual property organization (wipo), said he looked forward to developing and deepening their cooperative relationship with huawei. "we need to build a broader and more inclusive vision for innovation: one that brings together science and technology as well as policy, business and community forces."
fan zhiyong, huawei's vice president and director of the intellectual property department, revealed at the forum that in the past year, huawei has signed 40 new patent licensing agreements, and currently 22 of the fortune 500 companies have become huawei's licensees.
sonia london, president of licensing executives international (lesi), said that the essence of intellectual property protection is to encourage openness and sharing of innovation results; in return for making their innovative results public, inventors have the opportunity to obtain financial rewards and recognition for their contributions.
