"this (ex60) will be a huge boost and a big step forward in our electrification journey," said bjorn annwall. "i think the xc60 is the core of volvo's portfolio, it's in the middle of volvo's portfolio and it's our best-selling model. the xc60 is a really great car and a lot of people are waiting for its full electric version. so once we launch this new car, you'll see a big shift in our electrification."

the ex60 will reportedly be volvo's first model to use its new electric vehicle platform, spa3, and will adopt the same superset technology stack (it home note: the hardware and software that runs a vehicle and its functions) as the ex90 and es90 sedans launched next year.

"all future new volvo models will share the same basic technology stack, which will make development work more focused and faster," said anders bell, head of volvo's r&d department.
