it home reported on september 5 that the u.s. customs and border protection (cbp) seized a batch of apple products worth more than $100,000 in new castle, delaware on august 26, which were attempted to be smuggled into china.

the shipment was marked as "iphone repair returns," but actually included 168 ipads, 59 apple watch ultras, and 242 pairs of airpods. the total value of these products is as high as $103,016 (it home note: currently about rmb 733,000).

cbp said the seized package was declared as a $3,000 iphone repair return. however, a $3,000 iphone could contain between 2 and 20 devices, depending on the model. in any case, that number was clearly inconsistent with the number actually loaded on the pallet. customs found that the package contained 469 new apple products that were not declared on the list.

it is not yet clear who the smuggler is or whether he has been detained.
