landing in a new world: a mission to earth that concerns all of humanity. in the kenzo 2024 fall/winter campaign, artistic director nigo uses the milky way galaxy as an example to explore the earth. in this interstellar journey across the east and west continents and the fusion of eastern and western cultures, nigo depicts and presents a natural landscape full of science fiction. this shoot is set against the backdrop of the spectacular lanzarote volcano and inspired by the eastern and western cultures exchanged in science fiction movies. the static and dynamic shots were shot by johnny dufort and frank lebon, respectively.

the campaign is inspired by creative giant george lucas, who was deeply influenced by the samurai films of akira kurosawa and created the unique star wars universe with a sci-fi fantasy. the images pay tribute to the hand-painted sets and lighting of this space opera sci-fi film. the static blockbuster was shot at the famous rocky landmarks el volcancito charco de los clicos and teseguite, capturing the models in different poses to show the diversity of life, just like the alien species living on earth, from east to west and everywhere in between. the dynamic blockbuster was shot at night, with the soundtrack composed by kazuki ubukata, and the models roamed the almost martian terrain of the starry lanzarote, as if they were walking on another planet.

this season's blockbuster presents sci-fi uniform elements that blend with oriental elements: the kimono jacket is decorated with the lines of a samurai cape; the weave pattern is inspired by the pattern on the protective jacket of firefighters in the meiji period of japan, reminiscent of a retro-futuristic pattern; the pleated skirt is shaped like the draped cape worn by the heroine in a sci-fi novel. in this dialogue between outer space and the earth, materials with a hand-woven touch, such as artificial fur, 3d weaving and kenzo weave patterns, contrast with the metallic color of the sci-fi style; the micro-dot pattern is inspired by the edo komon elements on the 15th century kimono, and is presented in a constellation pattern using printing and embroidery techniques. at the same time, the series design continues the western practicalism and military style, presenting it on flight jackets, work suits and shearling jackets, and cleverly injecting design ideas that seem to come from a parallel universe.
