while ordinary couples are discussing daily necessities, li tingxin and liu xiaoxue, associate professors at shanghai jiao tong university, are discussing: "why did this phenomenon occur in the experiment? let's study it together."

"couples" are common in the academic circle, but not many of them can work on the same research together.

li tingxin mainly studies two-dimensional layered semiconductors, while liu xiaoxue specializes in graphene superconductivity. originally two different directions, the couple unexpectedly collided to produce a new spark - for the first time, an electron-doped superconducting state was observed in a heterostructure of single-crystal double-layer graphene and a two-dimensional semiconductor. this paper was recently published in nature.

"hit it off" to achieve top results

as early as 2022, the research group of stevan nadj-perge, a professor at the california institute of technology, published an arxiv preprint paper, which inspired li tingxin and liu xiaoxue.

"by combining crystalline double-layer graphene and single-layer semiconductor tungsten diselenide, we can see that the superconducting state of the intrinsic double-layer graphene is significantly enhanced. this phenomenon is very interesting, and there is still a lot of room for exploration," said li tingxin.
