recently, the world integrated circuit association (wica) released a white paper on the top 100 cities in terms of comprehensive competitiveness in the global integrated circuit industry in 2023. among them, 26 cities in mainland china were shortlisted, accounting for more than a quarter, and xiamen ranked 51st.

the integrated circuit industry is the core hub of the modern industrial system, directly related to the competitiveness of the country's high-tech industry, and its strategic position in international industrial competition is becoming increasingly important. the global integrated circuit industry has undergone three industrial center transfers and has formed industrial characteristics with clear global division of labor, high specialization, and spatial agglomeration. it is currently mainly concentrated in china, the united states, south korea, japan, europe, and other asia-pacific regions.

our city attaches great importance to the development of semiconductor and integrated circuit industries, and has developed into a "major city" of integrated circuits in my country, and is one of the key cities in the national integrated circuit planning layout. in 2023, the output value will exceed 50 billion yuan, and it will have a relatively complete industrial chain. as the main battlefield for the development of new quality productivity, the semiconductor industry market is expected to expand again due to the demand for ai, and the prospects are even broader. xiamen is accelerating the implementation of the "future industry cultivation project", focusing on the layout of the third-generation semiconductor industry, promoting the integrated development of semiconductors with electronic information, mechanical equipment, new energy and other industries, building a closer industrial ecological chain, and making every effort to create a "core" highland for the development of semiconductor and integrated circuit industries.

the white paper shows that santa clara, hsinchu, seoul, san jose, shanghai, tokyo, eindhoven, singapore, beijing, and austin are the top ten cities in the world's top 100 cities in terms of comprehensive competitiveness of the integrated circuit industry. from the regional distribution of the top 100 cities, 60 are from asia, 26 from north america, and 14 from europe. from the perspective of countries and regions, the united states and mainland china have the most cities on the list, ranking first with 26, followed by south korea, japan, taiwan, china, and malaysia, with 9, 9, 5, and 4 cities on the list, respectively.
