on the evening of august 30, the 2024 yabuli entrepreneurs' 20th summer annual meeting was held in huangpu district, guangzhou. the theme of the conference was "cultivating new quality productivity and enhancing new momentum for high-quality development", bringing together well-known entrepreneurs from brands such as new oriental, new hope, skyworth, tcl, and di guantong to share experiences, exchange views, and discuss cooperation, contributing wisdom and strength to promote high-quality economic development. at the meeting, yu minhong, chairman of new oriental education and technology group, delivered an opening speech.
"in ancient times, lingnan was relatively remote from the central plains, so the lingnan region developed northwards and westwards, trying to get as close as possible to the central plains civilization; and developed southwards, trying to get as close as possible to the maritime civilization. eventually, it became the intersection of continental civilization and maritime civilization." yu minhong believes that it is precisely because of this that guangdong and guangzhou eventually evolved a reform-first character and temperament, becoming a treasure land for chinese civilization to expand new ideas.
"from a historical perspective, when everyone didn't know what western society was like, guangzhou already had a large number of businessmen and common people who knew what was happening in the world. this also inspired guangzhou people to explore overseas." yu minhong gave an example, like in chikan, zhanjiang, where hundreds of watchtowers were built in the middle of farmland, reflecting the great "going to sea" spirit; the arcades in chaozhou and shantou show the development brought to the local area by "being the first to set the trend."
to avoid falling behind, we must "think about progress". yu minhong believes that openness brings prosperity, and mentality determines reality. entrepreneurs and society must have an open spirit and mentality, and believe that the prosperity of the motherland will continue forever. "guangzhou, a vast state, stands at the forefront. the spirit of openness is like the waves of the sea. once the waves rise, they will surge in all directions."
