"when i first entered university, many people around me questioned why i chose this major. they had a lot of misunderstandings, thinking that archaeology was just about treasure hunting and tomb robbing, and they didn't understand what you wanted to do or what kind of job you could find in the future." on august 29, sun weiyi, a doctoral student majoring in archaeology at sichuan university, told the reporter of the "daily economic news" about her original intention of spreading archaeological culture through the public account "yihuayi world" that she has been running since 2017. just one day ago, at the main forum of the 2024 china internet civilization conference, she shared her adventures with archaeology and archaeological cultural communication with the theme of "tradition and the future: using the internet as a medium to inherit the torch of chinese civilization."

"archaeology and the internet, one looks back to history, deep and heavy, the other faces the future, lively and light. when the two meet in the new era, the flame of chinese civilization will shine even brighter..." she described the integration of archaeology and internet culture in this way. in the internet age, history has become more fascinating and prosperous.

"i majored in history when i was a freshman, and then in my sophomore year, i chose museology. i think compared to simply doing research, there is an extra step of interpretation and communication. it is not only facing the niche in our industry, but also facing the general public, to 'communicate what this niche group of people is doing, including research results to the general public.'" sun weiyi said that she gradually found that she wanted to be such a "communicator" more, so she chose the direction of museology and archaeology, which have communication attributes.

in 2021, sun weiyi participated in the archaeological excavation of the sanxingdui site as a member of the sanxingdui archaeological team of sichuan university. it was a wonderful experience. "before going to the sanxingdui site, i thought the archaeological site would be very desolate and the conditions would not be good. i even bought a full set of jackets and hiking boots and was fully prepared. but when i got there, i found that everyone in the cabin was wearing protective clothing and was very neat..."

sun weiyi told the daily economic news reporter that she only learned later that this was to better protect the cultural relics so that they could be well protected as soon as they were unearthed to prevent a series of problems such as fading due to oxidation. wearing protective clothing is not to prevent viruses, but to prevent our skin debris or hair from entering the soil and affecting the monitoring results.

"this shows that the development of chinese archaeology has made use of many scientific and technological means. every grain of soil from sanxingdui must be preserved, and then screened and studied." sun weiyi believes that the development of our archaeology is no longer just about digging out cultural relics, but about maximizing the information that the ancients can pass on to us.

she believes that through the internet platform, we can break the time and space boundaries of cultural relics and bring together relevant cultural relics pictures and even 3d models from all over the country and even the world. people can immerse themselves in the charm of cultural relics without having to go so far.

the internet can not only show today's life, but also be a carrier of historical and cultural heritage. sun weiyi believes that the internet is not only a trendy way of communication, but also can give cultural connotations new contemporary value. i also write tweets for museums. most of the tweets in the past two years have been written for sichuan university museum. recently, i am also working on a picture book, which uses ancient chinese unearthed cultural relics to interpret the contemporary idea of a community with a shared future for mankind, so that everyone can feel the profound historical heritage of today's values, and realize the connection between the past and the present, and the modern rebirth of ancient cultural relics.

"we may make an experiment next week, called the painted museum, which will use comics to take everyone to an in-depth look at each museum. the first one planned will be the sichuan university museum, and the second one is currently planned to be the chengdu museum," she said.
