Xiao Ruike joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army on December 8, 1978 and became a soldier. In February 1979, Xiao Ruike participated in the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam, experienced the baptism of war, and interpreted the solemn oath of defending southern Xinjiang with his blood. In May 1981, Xiao Ruike participated in the war against Vietnam for the second time to defend the peace of the country.

He was awarded the second-class merit once in the two self-defense counterattack wars against Vietnam, and received commendations from the regiment, battalion and company a total of twelve times. In 1982, he was awarded an advanced individual medal for "Socialist Spiritual Civilization Construction".

Retirement does not fade, the factory is home

After Xiao Ruike was honorably discharged from the army, he started working in July 1985 and became a member of the Qianjiang Sugar Factory in Laibin, Guangxi.

"As soon as I entered the factory, I was assigned to the position of press operator in the pressing workshop. I started as a press operator and the workers in the factory called me 'press operator guy'," said Xiao Ruike.

This title made Xiao Ruike feel very cordial. He secretly made up his mind to do his job well and determined to devote his youth and strength to the "sweet cause" of Qianjiang Sugar Factory.

"At that time, the crushing machine set of Qianjiang Sugar Factory was imported equipment, and the wrenches, bolts and nuts used for installation weighed 20 kilograms each," said Xiao Ruike. In order to "get to know" it, Xiao Ruike humbly consulted the master and studied hard.

After several years of hard work, he mastered the structure and performance of the press equipment, mastered the operating skills, became the backbone of the press position, and gained the trust of the workshop leaders. In 1990, Xiao Ruike became the press team leader and worked in the press position for ten years.

"No matter what kind of work you do, enthusiasm and confidence are indispensable." With his love for work, Xiao Ruike worked hard in ordinary work and constantly improved his work ability and technical level. With the joint efforts of him and his colleagues, the production scale of Qianjiang Sugar Factory has been continuously expanded, and the "sweet business" that embodies the hard work of the sugar factory workers has been developed.

Use the heroic spirit of struggle to add bricks and tiles

As the saying goes, "No pain, no gain". In 1996, Xiao Ruike took up a middle-level management position in the enterprise and became a state cadre. In the following 22 years, Xiao Ruike worked in security, party work office, enterprise management department and other positions, and always had a good reputation in the unit.

In 2003, the QC group activities in which Xiao Ruike participated won the title of National Quality Trustworthy Team; in charge of boiler production and on-site management in the power department, he personally set an example and took good care of the management of dirty, messy and poor conditions. The boiler production safety rate was 100%, and all work was fruitful.

During his four years working as the security section chief and secretary, Xiao Ruike has comprehensively managed the security team building, continuously improved the team's combat effectiveness, achieved outstanding results, realized the goal of zero public security cases, and was rated as an advanced collective by the company for three consecutive years.

During his four years as director of the Party and Labor Office and secretary of the Party Branch of Machine One, Xiao Ruike focused on strengthening the construction of Party, League and Labor systems, established and improved the assessment mechanism for Party, labor and mass groups, and promoted the company's party, labor and mass groups work, achieving remarkable results, which was fully affirmed by the company and leaders.

Don’t forget your original intention and keep your mission in mind

"As a retired soldier, I feel extremely proud to have caught up with the great journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way. As long as I can contribute to the country, I will stand up without hesitation no matter how old I am," said Xiao Ruike.

More than 40 years have passed, and the young man who was full of vigor and vitality back then is now gray-haired and gray-haired. After years of baptism, Xiao Ruike still remembers his original intention. He is determined to make good use of his remaining energy, pass on the red gene, and encourage the younger generation to remember history, cherish peace, and fight for the country.

In 2020, after retiring and returning to the community family of Chengbei Street, Xingbin District, Laibin City, Xiao Ruike still maintained his military character at all times, insisted on studying, actively participated in various activities organized by the local party committee and government, and devoted himself to patriotic education activities.

Since his retirement, Xiao Ruike has taught more than 30 vivid national defense education classes for urban teachers, students, workers, new recruits, left-behind children, and residents in the jurisdiction. He has also gone to government departments to tell red stories and pass on the red gene.
