Original title: How to enjoy movie-level image quality: AMD RX 6750 GRE, RX 7700 XT "Black Myth: Wukong" performance test and optimization suggestions

1. Introduction: How to play Black Myth: Wukong smoothly with AMD mainstream graphics cards

"Black Myth: Wukong" is a phenomenal domestic game. Before it, no other game could directly challenge the top 3A masterpieces from abroad!

The latest data shows that the sales volume of "Black Myth: Wukong" on the Steam platform has exceeded 10.7 million copies, with sales of nearly 3 billion RMB.

On August 20, we did a cross-comparison of 30 graphics cards for this game. At that time, in order to facilitate the comparison of the performance differences of each graphics card, we set the picture level to "film level" and set the panoramic ray tracing to the highest level.

Such settings are too demanding for mid-range mainstream graphics cards. This time we will conduct a detailed test on two mid-range GPUs, Radeon RX 6750 GRE 10GB and RX 7700 XT, to see what kind of picture settings they need to get a smooth frame rate.

A few words about frame generation technology.

Although it seems that NVIDIA graphics cards are more suitable for running "Black Myth: Wukong", in order to sell new cards, NVIDIA has imposed restrictions on old cards. RTX 30 series and earlier graphics cards can only use DLSS technology, and the frame generation function cannot be enabled. Frame generation technology can greatly improve the frame rate of the game.

On AMD's side, all mainstream graphics cards, including the RX 5700 series, can support FSR 3.0 and frame generation technology.

In addition, AMD has opened FSR 3.0 and frame generation technology to NVIDIA GPUs. RTX 20/30 series graphics cards can also use AMD's FSR 3.0 technology to get a good gaming experience in "Black Myth: Wukong".

in addition,AMD also launched AFMF technology last year, you can insert frames in most mainstream 3A games, thereby doubling the frame rate.

More importantly, AFMF technology does not rely on hardware units but is implemented at the driver level and is fully compatible with AMD RX 5000/6000/7000 series GPUs.

The test platform is as follows:

2. RX 6750 GRE 10GB performance test: 1080p is the most suitable, 2K is not recommended to open ray tracing

First is the 1080P resolution.

The image quality level is ultra-high, with 100% oversampling clarity, and the frame rate of RX 6750 GRE 10GB is only 32FPS.

Just set the supersampling resolution to 60% and enable frame generation to reach 80FPS.

In 1080P, turn on panoramic ray tracing to "medium", the image quality level to "high", 50% oversampling clarity, turn on frame generation, and the frame rate to 56FPS.

At this time, you only need to change the shadow quality to "Medium", keep other things unchanged, and the frame rate can reach 60FPS.

Below is 2K resolution.

The image quality level is ultra-high, with 100% oversampling clarity and a frame rate of 23FPS.

Adjust the supersampling clarity to 60% and enable frame generation, and the frame rate reaches 66FPS.

I tried to enable ray tracing at 2K resolution. Even if I reduced the sampling resolution to 50%, the frame rate was only 34FPS. To achieve a smooth running frame rate of 60FPS, the image quality needs to be significantly lowered. It is not recommended to enable ray tracing at 2K for RX 6750 GRE 10GB.

III. RX 7700 XT performance test: 2K ray tracing can also be smooth

The open-type "film-level" picture quality at 1080P resolution, 100% oversampling clarity, and the frame rate is 36FPS.

Just set the supersampling clarity to 60% and turn on frame generation, and the frame rate will increase significantly to 78FPS.

If you want to turn on ray tracing, you need to set the image quality level to "ultra-high", adjust the supersampling clarity to 60%, turn on frame generation, and set panoramic ray tracing to "medium" to achieve 60FPS.

Next, let’s talk about 2K resolution.

The panoramic ray tracing is set to "medium", the image quality level is set to "high", 50% oversampling clarity and frame generation are enabled at the same time, and the frame rate is 58FPS.

At this time, you only need to set the shadow quality to "Medium" and the frame rate can reach 61FPS.

4. Test summary and smooth running image quality suggestions

The following is a summary of the test data:

Let me explain a little first. The yellow color represents the recommended image quality for each resolution. If super-resolution sampling is turned on at 1080P resolution, it is recommended to set the super-sampling resolution to above 60%. If this value is too low at low resolution, there will be a more obvious jagged feeling.

The situation is better at 2K resolution, and setting the supersampling clarity to 50% still provides good image quality.

Below is some explanation on the recommended image quality of the two graphics cards.

If you do not turn on ray tracing at 1080P resolution on Radeon RX 6750 GRE 10GB, you can set the image quality level to "ultra-high", adjust the supersampling clarity to 60%, and turn on frame generation, then you can reach 80FPS.

With the same picture settings, it can achieve 66FPS at 2K resolution, and there is no problem with smoothness.

For players who want to experience ray tracing, it is recommended to set the image quality to "high" at 1080P, adjust the shadow quality to "medium", 50% super sampling clarity, and turn on frame generation, the frame rate can reach 60FPS.

To experience ray tracing smoothly at 2K resolution, Radeon RX 6750 GRE 10GB needs to significantly lower the picture level. It is not worth sacrificing image quality for ray tracing.

The situation is much better with the Radeon RX 7700 XT.

At 1080P resolution, you can even enable the highest film-level image quality, plus 60% oversampling clarity and frame generation, the frame rate can reach 78FPS. With the same image quality, the frame rate can reach 71FPS at 2K resolution.

As for ray tracing, if you turn on panoramic ray tracing to "medium" at 1080P resolution, set the image quality level to "ultra-high", 60% super-sampling clarity, and turn on frame generation, the frame rate can reach 60FPS.

At 2K resolution, panoramic ray tracing is set to "medium", image quality level is set to "high", super sampling clarity is set to 50%, frame generation is turned on, and the frame rate is 61FPS.

For other AMD graphics cards, please refer to the above to adjust the settings.
