Professionalization of “pilots” boosts training demand

In July this year, the first drone pilot skills training class was successfully completed at the "5+2 Employment Home" in Honggutan District, Nanchang City, and drone driving training has gradually become popular in Nanchang.

"I used to think that drones can only take videos and pictures. Through these few days of training, I learned that drones have a very wide range of applications. Learning how to operate drones is not only my interest, but I can also apply this technology to my work," said student Mr. Huang.

The Nanchang branch of Huifei UAV Application Technology Training Center was established in Nanchang in 2015. Zhou Qun, the head of the training center, said that at that time, the application of drones in the photography community was not very widespread, and people were not very aware of the training. Since 2017, a wave of drone aerial photography has swept the photography community. "At that time, there were photography enthusiasts who came to our center for training. After all, buying a drone is expensive, and if you don't master the driving skills, the drone equipment will be affected." Zhou Qun said that photography enthusiasts became the first batch of trainees of the training institution.

Of course, the application of drones is no longer limited to aerial photography. It has been widely used in modern agriculture, law enforcement, earthquake, meteorology, bridge monitoring and other fields.

"Law enforcement officers in our unit have also participated in drone driving training and obtained the corresponding certificates, because drones are widely used to monitor traffic conditions and related highways and waters," said Xiao Hu, a relevant staff member of the Nanchang Transportation Law Enforcement Department.

Civilian UAV pilot training and certification fees start from 6,800 yuan

The booming low-altitude economy has brought about clearer requirements for a professional and standardized industry training market.

The Interim Regulations on the Management of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Flights will be officially implemented on January 1, 2024. The regulations clearly stipulate whether a license is required for flight, and clarify that personnel who control small, medium and large civil unmanned aerial vehicles must meet the corresponding conditions and apply to the civil aviation authority of the State Council to obtain the corresponding civil unmanned aerial vehicle operator license.

Before obtaining a license, standardized training is required. Therefore, many professional drone driving training institutions have emerged in the Nanchang market. So, how to set up courses for drone training? What is the cost?

The Provincial UAV Application Association announced the corresponding training fees and subjects on its official website, and carried out UAV driving training from April this year to the end of this year. The association set up the first batch of learning points in Nanchang and Ganzhou to carry out drone pilot safety regulations education and certification registration. The association's civil UAV pilot license (CAAC) learning and certification fees are divided into two categories. The market price of the multi-rotor visual range pilot certificate is 9,800 yuan, the association subsidizes 3,000 yuan, and the actual payment is 6,800 yuan; the market price of the multi-rotor beyond visual range pilot certificate (captain certificate) is 12,800 yuan, the association subsidizes 4,000 yuan, and the actual payment is 8,800 yuan.

A relevant person in charge of the Nanchang Zhongyi Tengyun Aviation UAV Training Center said that the institution has currently launched a civil drone pilot license (CAAC) learning and certification service. Depending on the different models, the fees range from 8,000 yuan to more than 10,000 yuan. The training time is 5 to 20 days. The institution has a special test site. After the training, you can take the test and get the certificate if you pass.

Sun Yuefeng, head of training business at the Nanchang branch of Huifei UAV Application Technology Training Center, introduced that the institution has two types of training. One is the UTC course, which is mainly a training course for DJI drones. The training time is 4 days and the fee is 2,800 yuan. The other is the CAAC certificate of the civil aviation department. The training time is 23 days and the registration fee ranges from 8,800 yuan to 12,000 yuan depending on the model of the drone.

Reminder: Check qualifications on the official website before signing up for drone pilot training

Drone piloting training is expensive and requires high professional skills, so how do you identify the qualifications of a training institution?

Airborne Future Industry-Education Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Jiangxi Airborne Future Technology Group, has rich training experience. Chen Yunzhu, general manager of the company, said that there are currently about 10 drone training institutions approved in Jiangxi Province, and five or six in Nanchang. "It is very important to choose a formal institution. Most qualified training institutions also have corresponding certification venues, so they can basically provide one-stop training and certification services to meet the needs of students for certification." Chen Yunzhu said.

How to check the qualifications of drone driving training institutions? Chen Yunzhu said that students can log in to the training institution query service column in the National Unmanned Vehicle Integrated Supervision Service Platform (https://uom.caac.gov.cn/) to check whether the training institution is a "regular army".
