At around 16:00 on August 23, a cold chain international freight train loaded with more than 400 tons of fresh vegetables such as cabbage, peppers, and broccoli slowly drove out of the Yanhe Station of the China-Laos Railway in Yuxi City, Yunnan Province. It will arrive at the Thai fruit and vegetable market in three days, marking that the China-Laos Railway's export cold chain international transportation has entered the normalization stage.
This cold chain international freight train uses advanced refrigerated containers for transportation. Vegetables are protected by precise temperature control throughout the entire journey in the refrigerated containers, ensuring that every link from packing to unloading can maintain the best freshness and quality. The train departs from Yuxi, Yunnan, runs to Vientiane, Laos via the China-Laos Railway, and then transported to Bangkok, Thailand by road.
Xu Jiefeng, director of the Yuxi Sales Department of Kunming Logistics Center of Kunming Bureau of China Railway, said: "'Yuncai' travels across thousands of mountains and rivers to reach the Thai fruit and vegetable market, bringing a feast of taste buds from the south of the Yangtze River to local consumers. This fast and efficient logistics channel not only meets customers' requirements for the temperature and transportation timeliness of fresh goods, but also demonstrates the strong ability of the China-Laos Railway in promoting international trade and serving high-level opening up."
In the early stage, the railway department tried the China-Laos Railway export cold chain international transportation service, which was well received by customers. As the China-Laos Railway export cold chain international transportation enters the normal stage, it will open up a stable and efficient new export route for Yuxi and even the entire Yunnan's characteristic industrial products and fresh fruits and vegetables, which will not only greatly reduce transportation costs and improve product competitiveness, but also greatly expand the international market for characteristic agricultural products such as "Yunnan vegetables", bringing tangible benefits to the people of the Indochina Peninsula countries and even wider regions.
Zhang Guilan, deputy director of the Yuxi Municipal Bureau of Commerce, said that fast logistics and transportation are an important support for the development of an open economy. The opening of the China-Laos Railway has given wings to the export of Yuxi fruits and vegetables. It is estimated that more than 50,000 tons of high-quality fruits and vegetables will be exported to the Indochina Peninsula countries through this convenient channel every year, further consolidating and enhancing the status of "Yunnan vegetables" in the international market.
It is reported that since the opening of the China-Laos Railway in December 2021, as of August 22, the entire line has shipped a total of more than 43 million tons of goods, including more than 10 million tons of import and export freight, injecting strong momentum into the regional prosperity and development.
