Reference News reported on August 24Turkey's Defense Ministry said on August 23 that Turkish and Russian armored vehicle units have resumed joint patrols in northeastern Syria after the two countries suspended the operation last year due to security concerns.

According to reports, a statement issued by the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that the ground joint patrol operation was restarted on the 22nd in the eastern part of the "Spring of Peace" operation area in northeastern Syria, with a total of 4 armored vehicles and 24 personnel participating.

Turkey’s defence ministry did not elaborate on the security issues that led to the suspension of joint patrols in October last year. Turkey and Russia have conducted 344 joint patrols in the region since 2019.

It is reported that in 2019, Turkey and the Syrian armed groups it supports launched a military operation called "Peace Spring" in northeastern Syria, aimed at repelling the US-backed Kurdish armed forces "Syrian Democratic Forces".

That same year, Ankara and Moscow agreed to conduct joint patrols in the region under a deal reached between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense said that joint ground patrols will continue in the near future to achieve stability in northeastern Syria, ensure the security of the Turkish border, and demonstrate cooperation between Turkey and Russia in combating terrorism.
