"After finishing my homework when I get home, I will help my mother with the laundry. I also often give my father ideological guidance and supervise his self-exercise at home."

There are no playgrounds or cartoons. Instead, they help their working mothers with housework and help their fathers with pneumoconiosis recover. This is the daily life of Xinxin (pseudonym), a junior high school student at Shanyang No. 3 Middle School in Shaanxi Province. It is also a microcosm of the lives of thousands of children from pneumoconiosis families. After the "pillar" of the family falls, their small shoulders actually support the entire pneumoconiosis family.

In order to better protect the growth of children from pneumoconiosis families, in August this year, the charity organization Yi and Jiaye jointly held the "Light up the future, see the world together" Shaanxi Charity Summer Camp. Including Xinxin, a total of 70 children from pneumoconiosis families in the Qinling Mountain area of Shaanxi Province participated in this summer camp in the ancient city of Xi'an in the form of a five-day and four-night cultural journey, a love journey, a seeding journey, and a growth journey.

"The flow of love" brings "the continuation of hope"

Xiaodan (pseudonym), who just finished the college entrance examination this year, also participated in the Great Love and Clean Dust Shaanxi Charity Summer Camp. As a child of a pneumoconiosis family, Xiaodan, who graduated from elementary school six years ago, also went out of the Qinling Mountains for the first time by participating in the summer camp and saw the wonderful world outside the mountains. This summer camp activity planted the seeds of striving for progress in the young Xiaodan's heart, providing her with a continuous source of motivation for future studies.

During this visit to the Terracotta Warriors, she mustered up the courage to say "Hello" to a foreign friend for the first time, and felt the real application of textbook knowledge in life; in the hotel where she stayed together, she overlooked the hustle and bustle of the city at night for the first time. All the "first times" planted a seed of "going out and working hard to change my destiny" in her heart, and it continued to take root and sprout as she grew up.

“No matter what stage of study you are in, I believe that your brothers and sisters must have some worries to a certain extent, but as long as we can have a clear goal and dream, I believe that the difficult process we go through will become a stepping stone to help our dreams.” Xiaodan gave a heartfelt message at the opening ceremony of the summer camp.

With the help of the charity foundation, the charity enterprises and people in the society, and Xiaodan's own efforts, she was admitted to Sichuan Agricultural University as she wished this year and is about to start a new life in the university. As for the future, Xiaodan said that she has made a general plan and will continue to study hard and strive for postgraduate entrance examinations. Through active practice, she will lay a foundation for employment and "do her best to help those in need" to continue to pass on the society's care for children from pneumoconiosis families.

The children who participated in this year's summer camp also shared their feelings in their essays:

“We have gained a lot from this series of activities. Not only have we broadened our horizons and gained more knowledge, but we have also gained precious friendships and unforgettable memories.”

"I am grateful for these five days of experience. It will illuminate our life path like bright stars. In the future, we will carry this wonderful memory and understanding with us, continue to move forward, explore more unknowns, discover more beauty, and make our lives shine more brilliantly."

"I met volunteers and staff from Da Ai Qing Chen, staff from Beijing Yihe Jia Ye, and caring people from all walks of life... Maybe they are a star descending in the darkness, or a scent of flowers we smell in the cold winter. In this big world, we can meet you, and I want to say: 'It's great to have you.'"

The "attention" and "care" given by the society are condensed into the "strength" and "hope" for the children to get out of the mountains and give back to their hometown. This is the significance of holding charity summer camps for many years.

"Children are the precious hope of pneumoconiosis families. Learning is an effective way to help them get out of their family difficulties. This summer camp not only provides children with an opportunity to get out of the mountains and explore the world, but also builds a stage for them to inspire themselves and depict their dreams." Chen Bei, co-founder and deputy general manager of Yihe Jiaye, said, "I hope to work with Da Ai Qing Chen to pass on this love and hope in a sustainable way."

It is reported that in 2024 alone, Yihe Jiaye has donated 100 oxygen concentrators, 200,000 yuan of public welfare summer camp activity funds and 200,000 yuan of operating funds for the Shaanxi Management Committee of Da'ai Qingchen to Da'ai Qingchen. With the support of this operating fund, Da'ai Qingchen will form a regular volunteer team in Shaanxi to care for local pneumoconiosis patients in a more systematic and thorough manner for a long time.

"Caring for people" and then "Caring for families"

During the five-day summer camp, the children visited the Qin Shihuang Mausoleum Museum, Shaanxi Natural History Museum, Haojin Museum, explored Qujiang Ocean World, checked in at famous historical and cultural attractions in Xi'an such as the Bell and Drum Tower and Big Wild Goose Pagoda, and also jointly organized a variety of activities such as outdoor camping and barbecue parties.

In places that the children could not see, Jardine Matheson and Da'ai Qingchen also visited pneumoconiosis patients in Shanyang County Hospital. Both parties went to the homes of pneumoconiosis patients to care about their condition, daily life and use of respiratory equipment, and brought nutritional supplies and consolation money. The technical backbones of Jardine Matheson on the scene patiently explained to the patients and their families how to use the oxygen concentrator and corrected incorrect usage methods.

"Through on-site visits, our technical staff can more intuitively understand the actual usage of the products, truly achieve 'user-oriented innovation', and reversely motivate Yihe Jiaye to develop good products that truly care about people and homes." Chen Bei believes.

It is understood that since 2018, Jardine Matheson has donated a total of more than 2.16 million yuan worth of home respiratory equipment to pneumoconiosis patients through Da'ai Qingchen. In addition to supporting pneumoconiosis patients, helping their children with schooling, and supporting Da'ai Qingchen's charity activities, operational support and other sponsorships and other material donations, the value of the measurable materials donated to Da'ai Qingchen has exceeded 3.3 million yuan to date.

"The world has always had two sides, they are like two sides of a coin, connected to each other but never intersecting. Please remember and see these children and their families. Seeing them is seeing life, and seeing ourselves." After participating in this year's charity summer camp, contemporary writer Chen Nianxi said so.
