According to a report by Fox News on August 19, in order to improve customer satisfaction, the gourmet fast food truck Hawkins BBQ has implemented a new plan: providing seagull insurance for meals.
Hawkins BBQ is located on the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea between England and Ireland and is famous for selling sandwiches, chips and ice cream. Recently, the fast food truck has often encountered problems with seagulls snatching meals, so the business has begun to provide seagull insurance for paying customers. Hawkins BBQ wrote on Facebook: "Many people on the island will have experienced one or two injuries from enthusiastic seagulls, sometimes when walking on the Strand Street and being attacked suddenly, and sometimes when eating ice cream." Now for only £1 (about $1.3), customers of Hawkins BBQ can purchase seagull insurance when dining, and if the food is snatched by seagulls, they can get another meal for free. The proceeds from the seagull insurance will be donated to the Isle of Man Wildlife Trust, a nature conservation charity in the area.
Matt Hawkins, chef and partner at Hawkins BBQ, said seagulls are protected animals in the UK, which means they are plentiful and have become aggressive. He said: "We want customers to be able to dine in peace. So far, the public response has been very good." Customers praised the unique idea in the Facebook comments section.
