One day in 1978, Hou Yimin came to Luoxiang Town, Jiang County, Guizhou Province. The characteristic architecture and ethnic costumes of the ethnic minority areas here made Hou Yimin very curious. He came here to find inspiration for the cover design of the fourth edition of RMB.

Hou Yimin had previously received a difficult task, which was to design the cover pattern for the fourth edition of RMB. This matter was related to the country's image, but the early design plans were not satisfactory.

As a designer of the RMB, Hou Yimin felt tremendous pressure. He designed patterns during the day and thought about plans at night, but he was never satisfied. Later, he had an idea and decided to go deep into the border ethnic minority areas in person, hoping to gain design inspiration from them.
