Electric version of the "variable-wing" drone.
According to British media reports, the "variable-wing" drone developed by two British companies recently conducted its first flight demonstration. This type of drone uses a unique folding wing with an inclined surface, which can switch between fixed-wing and rotary-wing modes during flight, increasing the payload and range of the drone and enhancing its combat capability. When the drone uses fixed-wing flight, it can obtain greater lift with less power; after switching to rotary-wing mode, the drone's fuselage becomes smaller, allowing it to take off and land vertically or hover in a small space or in harsh environments.
The report said that the first flight demonstration was conducted with a smaller electric version of the "variable wing" drone. It has a payload of 6.8 kg, a maximum flight speed of 120 km/h and a range of 111 km. This type of drone has strong maneuverability and beyond-line-of-sight communication capabilities, making it suitable for civil transport or military missions.
