Plants add a wonderful element to any living environment.

Until recently, I had never thought about growing plants somewhere other than in pots, on the floor, or on a side table by the window. I love my plants and wanted to find a creative way to incorporate them into a space. As I was researching ideas and options, I discovered that plant walls are very popular and on trend.

The more I thought about making a living wall, the more I realized there were specific things I wanted to incorporate. I wanted my living wall to be modular so I could change and rearrange it as my houseplants grew. I wanted to water my living wall’s plants/pots right in place, and I didn’t want to have to pull out a ladder when I wanted to reach the top floor. I wanted my living wall to have a glowing quality. And I wanted my living wall to be big.

This meant adding a drip irrigation system and accent lighting to really fill the wall space. This living wall combines functionality, visual stimulation and an easy DIY approach to make it happen. The only secret is to have fun, make your own decisions and customize it your way.

Pre-dyed and cut

Stain the boards for parts A, B, C, D, F, G, H, and J before cutting all the boards to the sizes listed on the cut list. The benefit of this is that it will be easier to touch up the stain once the unit is assembled, and you won't have to use a paint brush and rag to cut in tight spaces, which can leave overlapping marks. Allow the stained boards to dry overnight before cutting all the boards the next morning.
