Beijing, August 19 (Xinhua) -- As the core area of Zhongguancun, Beijing's Pinggu District is relying on the resource advantages of the capital's agricultural region to build Zhongguancun into a research and development highland, industrial highland, talent highland, and transformation highland in the agricultural field. The district has integrated and demonstrated a number of science and technology agricultural application scenarios, built 117 doctoral farms, and 13 academicians and 411 doctors are "farmers".
Relevant officials of Pinggu District, Beijing, introduced at a press conference held on the 19th that in recent years, the district has continued to work hard on agricultural high-tech and continuously consolidated the construction of the core area of Zhongguancun, an agricultural region. Pinggu District has gathered a number of agricultural science and technology resources. The National Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Port (abbreviated as "National Agricultural Port") project has completed the demolition of ground objects. The project covers a total area of about 867 mu, with a planned teacher and student scale of 10,000 and a total investment of about 6.8 billion yuan. The National Agricultural Port Station has been added to Metro Line 22; a number of agricultural science and technology integrated innovation and transformation bases have been created, new research and development institutions such as Zhengda Research Institute and Beidahuang Research Institute have been built, and a number of key laboratories have been introduced in a planned and targeted manner.

Pinggu District has integrated and demonstrated a number of science and technology agricultural application scenarios. Construction of an efficient and intelligent greenhouse cluster covering an area of 815 mu, the largest under construction area in North China, has started. Yukou Poultry has cultivated the "Jinghong" and "Jingfen" egg-laying chicken varieties with independent intellectual property rights. For every two eggs consumed by Chinese people, one comes from the Jing series egg-laying chicken varieties cultivated by Yukou Poultry; it has attracted a number of innovative entities to start businesses in Pinggu, and has built 117 doctoral farms, with 13 academicians and 411 doctors as "farmers", and 34 new modern agricultural enterprises; it has built a domestic and international agricultural cooperation and exchange platform, successfully held the 2023 World Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Conference, which has received widespread attention from the international community, and the permanent venue of the World Farm Animal Welfare Conference has landed in Pinggu.
In the construction of Zhongguancun in agriculture, the innovation chain and industrial chain are seamlessly connected, and a modern food and nutrition valley has been derived. Pinggu District is building the Beijing Food Nutrition and Health High-tech Innovation Center led by academicians to create an agricultural food synthetic biology manufacturing cluster. The construction of Zhongguancun in agriculture has achieved initial results. In 2023, the total agricultural output value of Pinggu was 3.94 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.6%, and the output value jumped to the first place in the city.
The person in charge said that in the process of accelerating the construction of an international science and technology innovation center in Beijing, Pinggu District will build an agricultural science and technology innovation center with national leadership and global influence. It will accelerate the construction of the National Agricultural Port project, promote the project to fully enter the physical construction stage, speed up the construction progress of the National Agricultural Port Station on Metro Line 22, and go all out to build the National Agricultural Port into the core engine of the agricultural Zhongguancun.
The district will prepare for the 2024 World Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Conference, and simultaneously transform the conference results, release important results, attract investment, and implement a number of projects to create an international, normalized, high-level global agricultural event; build the Zhongguancun Agricultural College, and create a training base, professional think tank, and international exchange platform based in Pinggu, serving the capital, and driving the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
