The competition is divided into two major groups: AUV (autonomous underwater vehicle) and ROV (remotely controlled underwater vehicle), and two tracks: university and enterprise. Contestants will complete a series of complex tasks and challenges according to the rules. The AUV group focuses on the robot's autonomous navigation and task execution capabilities, while the ROV group emphasizes the accuracy and flexibility of remote control operations.

The contestants come from universities such as Ocean University of China, Hainan University, Shantou University, Dalian University of Technology, Beijing Information Science and Technology University, Qingdao University, as well as companies such as Hainan Aviator Technology Co., Ltd., Marginal Field (Dalian) Innovation Technology Co., Ltd., and Sanya Gongdao Marine Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. The champion will present his work at the opening ceremony of the Second Hainan Free Trade Port International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum and Deep Sea Technology Innovation Conference.

The competition is hosted by Hainan Provincial Science and Technology Bureau, Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Administration Bureau and Harbin Engineering University South China Sea Research Institute. It aims to build a comprehensive practice platform integrating technological innovation, achievement transformation and talent training, cultivate the technology/skills innovation ability and achievement application ability of colleges and universities and enterprises in the field of marine robots, select high-quality technical teams and collaborative innovation cases, so as to form an efficient supply and demand docking and transformation and application of technological innovation, and promote the formation of a closer collaborative innovation mechanism between enterprises and universities.
