China News Service, Jincheng, August 18 (Liu Xiaohong) The 6th Millet Industry Exchange and Exhibition Matchmaking Conference and Yangcheng Red Seedling Valley High-Quality Development Seminar were held in Yangcheng County, Shanxi Province from August 16 to 17. "People say Shanxi has beautiful scenery, fertile land, beautiful water and fragrant crops." Shanxi is located on the Loess Plateau, spanning six latitudes from north to south. It has diverse landforms and climates. Its unique resource endowment and long farming history have given birth to rich and high-quality agricultural products.
Millet, the crown jewel of Shanxi's "small grain kingdom", has a large planting area, which has remained stable at more than 3 million mu in recent years. It is the province's largest small grain crop, and its sown area and total output rank second in the country. It is an important means for Shanxi Province to ensure stable grain supply.
"Shanxi millet has good quality, and millet porridge is praised by the people as 'substitute ginseng soup'." Yao Jiguang, deputy director of the Shanxi Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, introduced that Shanxi has many high-quality millet varieties and rich millet germplasm resources. Among them, Jingu No. 21 is the national leading variety, with a cumulative promotion area of more than 100 million mu.
At present, Shanxi is committed to building a high-standard production base, creating a millet organic dryland demonstration area, and building a standardized production base; at the same time, it is committed to improving processing capabilities. The millet biscuits, millet coffee, millet juice, rice flour and other products developed and produced are very popular among consumers. In terms of marketing, the millet sales network is spread all over the country and has entered foreign markets such as Japan and South Korea. It is reported that "Shanxi Millet" has twice been rated as "China's Top Ten Influential Public Brands of Grain and Oil".
"As a small-grain cereal, millet has unique advantages in utilizing barren land and responding to climate change, and is of great significance to ensuring global food security." Li Jie, vice president (vice dean) of Shanxi Agricultural University (Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences), said that Shanxi Agricultural University will actively leverage its scientific research and talent advantages to provide strong support for the development of Shanxi's coarse grain industry, and looks forward to working with all sectors to promote the high-quality development of the millet industry.
