There are many pitfalls in decoration, some of which can only be experienced after moving in. For example, the following 10 items must be avoided before decoration:

1. White painted door

White painted doors look beautiful and upscale, and many families choose painted doors for the sake of face.

However, two years after moving in, I found that color had appeared on the door and the wall, and the color of the door turned yellow.

Discoloration is a basic characteristic of painted doors, and painted doors are not scratch-resistant. Even under the sun, there are tiny scratches. They are beautiful but not practical. The price is half higher than that of unpainted doors. So there is no need to spend money to buy them for the sake of face and then regret it.

For bedroom doors, choose melamine unpainted doors, which are low in price, do not discolor, are scratch-resistant and wear-resistant, and come in a variety of colors, including wood grain. Unlike painted doors, which only have solid color options.

2. Shower glass partition

The first internet celebrity product, many people love the appearance of glass partitions, and most home decorations choose to install glass partitions.

However, after two years of living in the house, various problems arose with the glass partitions:

➡️The scale on the glass is very obvious. It is useless to use a descaling agent to clean it, because scale will appear every time after taking a shower, which is driving mysophobic people crazy.

➡️Glass provides poor privacy.

➡️Its safety is poor, and it is dangerous to shower when there are elderly people at home.

➡️Glass partitions are expensive and have high pre-embedded costs.

If sinking is required, grooves need to be embedded in the ground, walls and ceiling. This requires high skills of bricklayers and carpenters, and it is easy to fall into traps.

➡️The small bathroom is equipped with a glass partition, and the shower space is even smaller. If you want to take a shower with your children, there is not enough space.

➡️The glass partition cannot be completely closed, it is either half high or half wide, water will still splash out, and the water vapor will still make the bathroom humid.

In fact, there is no need to make partitions in the bathroom, because the toilet is not afraid of water splashing. The water on the ground can be swept clean with a magic silicone broom, and there will be no water stains left. It is very easy to use.

There is no need to make a sunken shower area, as it is easy to trip when walking and difficult to clean. As long as the ground is built with a ramp, the silicone broom can sweep the water directly into the floor drain.

Without the partition, I saved a lot of money, the shower area immediately became much larger, and I no longer have to be restricted when taking a shower.

Moreover, you can purchase and install various partitions online at any time in the future, which is very convenient. Don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it during the decoration stage and complicate a simple problem.

3. Use the angle valve that comes with the bathroom cabinet

When you buy a bathroom cabinet, it will be equipped with an angle valve, but its angle valve is generally made of iron or zinc alloy. There will be a risk of leakage after 2 years of use.

The iron angle valve will rust and rot over time, and leakage is inevitable:

The surface of zinc alloy is easily oxidized, the service life is only 2 to 3 years, and it is easy to break.

Once the angle valve breaks, serious consequences may occur if no one is at home. Therefore, the angle valve that comes with the bathroom cabinet cannot be used, including the angle valves in the bathtub and sink. If the smart toilet is purchased from a well-known brand, the built-in angle valve can be used.

You have to buy the angle valve yourself, and you can choose brass or 304 stainless steel. 304 has a longer service life and is more expensive.

The valve core should be made of ceramic, which is more wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant than metal, has little deformation due to thermal expansion and contraction, and is not prone to water leakage.

4. Gas water heater with zero cold water function

When I was renovating my house, the zero cold water function was the only criterion for choosing a gas water heater, because it can heat the water in the pipes at all times. When you turn on the faucet, hot water will come out in seconds, without having to drain the water in the pipes. It’s so happy just thinking about it.

After using it for 2 years, I found that the zero cold water function is not worth it at all, it's just a waste of money.

➡️After turning on the 24h zero cold water function, the water heater will start frequently, and the noise of the circulation pump + induced draft fan used to circulate and heat the water in the water pipes will also exist 24 hours a day. No matter how good the water heater is, it is impossible to be completely silent.

➡️After turning on the 24h zero cold water function, I spend an extra 200 yuan on gas bills every month, which is so painful.

➡️Touch to start the zero cold water function, and wait for 3 minutes for hot water to come out.

➡️When renovating the water and electricity, it cost several hundred yuan to pre-bury the return pipe.

➡️The water heater with zero cold water function cost an extra 500-1000 yuan.

Therefore, I advise everyone that there is really no need to buy a water heater with zero cold water function. When using hot water, drain the cold water first. If you drain 10L of water a day, it is less than 4 tons of water a year, which costs more than ten yuan.

5. Mixing self-sealing floor drains and water-sealed floor drains

When the water seal floor drain is used in a dry area, the water in the water seal will start to smell when it dries up.

I used a self-sealing floor drain in the shower area, and after 2 years the flap could not be closed tightly.

In fact, you can't choose a floor drain casually. The inner core of the floor drain is divided into two categories: self-sealing and water-sealed.

The deep water seal floor drain relies on water to seal, has a simple structure, and generally does not break down. Therefore, it is very suitable for use in places where drainage is frequent, such as shower areas. However, it is not suitable for use in dry areas because the sealing effect will be lost when the water dries up.

The self-sealing floor drain relies on gravity, magnetism and other methods to close the flap to prevent odor, and is opened by the impact of water flow. Its drainage speed is relatively fast, but it will demagnetize over time and it can easily be squeezed by foreign objects and not closed tightly. Therefore, its service life is much shorter than that of the water-sealed floor drain, and it is very suitable for use in dry areas.

Self-sealing floor drains are divided into gravity type, magnetic type, and magnetic levitation type represented by submarines.

The gravity type needs to be cleaned frequently, otherwise it will be blocked by foreign objects and not seal tightly.

Magnetic seals are better than gravity seals, but they will gradually demagnetize.

The magnetic levitation type is better than the above two types, but the price is also high.

6. Buying a floor drain is cheap, but it starts to rust after 2 years

I spent more than 30 yuan to buy a floor drain, but in less than two years, the surface showed signs of oxidation and rust.

This is because the material of the floor drain is not selected properly.

Do not choose alloy floor drains, whether zinc alloy or aluminum alloy, as they are prone to rust and rot.

Choose chrome-plated brass or stainless steel. Chrome-plated brass has a better texture and is more expensive.

If conditions permit, you can choose Submarine, the domestically-renowned and top-selling brand of floor drain. Submarine's famous "UFO" inner core is a two-in-one gravity + magnet, and the main body is made of brushed fine copper with nickel plating. It has good texture, long service life, large drainage capacity, and good anti-odor effect. It is very suitable for use in dry areas, and there is no problem using it in shower areas.

7. Suspended TV cabinet

The suspended TV cabinet with the bottom light strip is indeed very nice. However, two years after moving in, I found that the TV cabinet had sunk and separated from the wall.

No matter what method you use to hang a suspended TV cabinet, cracking is inevitable, so don't spend money on it.

Just make a floor-standing TV cabinet together with the whole house customization, with a height of 20-25cm and a width of 30cm.

8. Central air conditioning

I originally wanted to hide the air conditioner, but I still gritted my teeth and installed central air conditioning. Now I’m afraid of wasting electricity and annual maintenance, so I rarely turn it on.

The price of central air conditioning is very high, and the installation fee is also high. Inspection ports need to be reserved, and they need to be hidden by suspended ceilings. They require annual maintenance, and they consume a lot of power and are very energy-consuming.

In fact, it only costs more than 4,000 yuan to install a cabinet in the living room. It is very simple to install and maintain. It is also a very important soft furnishing next to the sofa in the living room. It saves the money to buy floor lamps. It kills two birds with one stone and is the best choice.

9. Rock slab ceramic seamless splicing integrated basin

We all know that the inner corners of a stone slab spliced integrated basin are most likely to harbor dirt, so I did my homework and bought a stone slab ceramic seamless spliced integrated basin, which combines the beauty of a stone slab countertop with the easy-to-clean properties of a ceramic basin. It is simply perfect.

After checking in, I found that I had fallen into a trap.

When washing towels or hair, water easily overflows, and the stone slab countertop has no water retaining edge, so water easily flows to the ground.

In fact, you can buy a stone slab ceramic integrated basin with seams. It can effectively prevent water overflow, and the seams are not visible, so there is no problem of sanitary dead corners. The price is cheaper than a seamless basin. This is a very practical design and a very smart choice.

10. Constant temperature shower

A constant temperature shower head can control the water temperature without being plugged in. I was so impulsive that I bought one at a price twice as expensive as an ordinary shower head.

However, there is a gas water heater at home. The water heater can accurately control the temperature, but the temperature of the water coming out of the constant temperature shower is several degrees lower. This is because no matter what the temperature of the hot water is, the constant temperature shower will mix it with cold water.

For example, if you want to get 42 degrees hot water, you need to set the temperature of the gas water heater to 50 degrees, and the constant temperature shower can produce 42 degrees water. If the water heater is set to 42 degrees, even if the constant temperature shower is set to 42 degrees, it can only produce water over 30 degrees.

The result is a waste of water and gas.

Therefore, the constant temperature shower head and gas water heater cannot be used at the same time.

I will continue to share my experience in decoration technology. Comments are welcome. It is not easy to create. Please give me a thumbs up~
