On August 17, Beijing was forecast to have a round of heavy rainfall. The reporter learned from the Municipal Transportation Commission that the transportation department immediately launched a flood prevention emergency response and implemented various transportation guarantee measures to ensure the safety of citizens' travel.
For the subway, we strengthened the supervision of train drivers on duty on the ground and elevated lines, and strengthened observation to ensure the safety of train operation. We arranged for reserve vehicles to be put on line at any time according to the changes in passenger flow to relieve passenger flow pressure. In view of the cultural and sports activities at the National Stadium and the National Speed Skating Hall on the 17th, we took measures to add passenger trains during the closing hours.
At the same time, we will do a good job in guiding passenger flow at entrances and exits, transfer passages, gates, escalators, etc., and arrange personnel to be on duty at key locations of seven stations, two airports, business districts, and scenic spots with large passenger flow, to organize passenger flow and maintain order. We will strengthen the cleaning of rainwater in key areas, promptly set up anti-slip mats, place reminder signs, and distribute disposable raincoats to facilitate passengers' travel on rainy days.
For ground public transportation, additional mobile transport capacity will be deployed during the rainy season to shorten the driving interval during the evening peak hours. In view of the characteristics of summer passenger flow, transportation support work will be done around key areas such as scenic spots, as well as around railway stations and long-distance bus stations. The number of trains will be increased to reduce the waiting time for citizens on rainy days. The train delays at major railway stations will be kept abreast of the situation, and personnel and vehicle preparations will be made in advance. At the same time, according to the changes in road waterlogging, detours, skipping stations and suspension measures will be taken in a timely manner, and the original route will be restored as soon as the water dissipates, so as to minimize the impact of rain and waterlogging on public transportation operations.
In addition, we will strengthen rainfall and road monitoring on mountain routes, take corresponding measures based on rainfall and road conditions, and issue travel guidance to facilitate citizens to adjust their travel arrangements.
In terms of road traffic, we closely monitor the waterlogging points on roads and potential geological disasters along the highways during the main flood season this year, pre-position flood control forces, and prepare teams for the front line, with a total of more than 6,400 standby personnel and more than 1,300 sets of mechanical equipment. In particular, in response to the safety risks brought about by the increase in weekend travel in mountainous areas, we comprehensively strengthen the prevention and response to geological disasters along the highways, identify traffic risks in advance, and take closure measures in advance in conjunction with the traffic control department for sections with signs of landslides and falling rocks, and promptly and scientifically handle emergencies to prevent secondary disasters.
During the rainy season, the transportation department widely released travel tips through variable information boards on highways and subway PIS to guide social traffic safety, encourage citizens to travel in off-peak hours and minimize travel in mountainous areas. Passengers arriving in Beijing at night were evacuated in a timely manner by delaying subway times and adding buses and taxis.
