Apart from anything else, just from the perspective of scares, "Alien: Death Stranding" is still quite scary.

Especially when watching this kind of film on the big screen, the level of blood and gore, all kinds of chest breaking, body corrosion or body horror content, there were many scenes that really made me short of breath.

As a horror film, especially one that can be shown in mainland theaters, I don't want to criticize it too much.

Of course, there are regrets, such as the big scare at the end, which was unexpected, but really, too ugly! It completely violates H.R. Giger's dark aesthetics of Alien.

Look at the design of the alien, it is really a work of art. Although it is scary, its shape is very perfect.

You are like the Ant King played by Yoshihiro Togashi in "Hunter x Hunter". In terms of appearance, it is a perfect setting, streamlined, symmetrical, and a perfect body.

But your last big thing completely deviates from Giger's aesthetics. It's simply horrible, ugly, and not even symmetrical, let alone perfect. This is very regrettable.

In fact, this also reflects the differences in aesthetics and taste between director Fede Alvarez and Ridley Scott.

Fed Alvarez is considered to have some talent among the new generation of horror film directors. Whether it is the "Don't Breathe" series or the new version of "The Evil Dead", they are actually quite good among the new horror films in recent years.

But maybe he is better at, or likes, making pure horror movies, playing with disgust and scares. For example, atmosphere creation and body horror are also shown in "Alien: Reaper", and it feels like he had a lot of fun.

And this time, he seemed to have borrowed the set of "Alien" directed by Ridley Scott and made a fun little horror film of his own. You can call it a fan film or a spin-off.

Anyway, a lot of Alien elements are used, and there are also many tributes, but the fun is still his.

Therefore, as a small horror film that requires a sense of fright, it is definitely qualified. But compared with the mysterious, depressing, grand, and even somewhat religious atmosphere of Director Lei, it is obviously difficult for Fede Alvarez to achieve it.

Just take what you need.

Rotten Tomatoes now has a media freshness rating of 82% and a score of 7.1. I'm curious what the score will be on Douban. It should be above 7.

It's still the same, there are definitely regrets, and it's indeed a bit stingy, but it's okay to be able to see such a horror movie on the big screen in mainland China.
