There is a short but informative scene in the video, which is the launch process of the Eagle Strike-21 hypersonic anti-ship missile on the 055 large destroyer. After leaving the tube, the missile quickly rises and flies into the distance.
It is worth mentioning that some media reported that in April 2022, when the Chinese Navy celebrated its 73rd anniversary, the People's Navy released a video of the Type 055 destroyer launching a hypersonic anti-ship ballistic missile called the "Eagle Strike-XX" in a series of promotional videos, which caused an uproar in public opinion. But it was deleted not long after. Some people believed that it might be too advanced and they did not want to put too much pressure on the US aircraft carrier.
After two and a half years, the People's Navy once again released a video of the Type 055 launching the Eagle Strike-21. Although the picture clarity is not very high, the shock brought by the hypersonic anti-ship missile has not diminished. The second public release shows that the Eagle Strike-21 has been successfully mass-produced and put into service, forming combat effectiveness.
The Eagle Strike-21 is my country's first air-launched hypersonic missile. It uses a cold launch method, that is, it is ejected into the air before ignition. It is predicted that its range is between 1,000 and 1,500 kilometers, with a maximum flight speed of Mach 10 and a terminal penetration speed of Mach 5 to 6. With the support of a high-precision guidance system, it can fly directly to the target without deviation or misjudgment. The head-body separation maneuvering reentry warhead can perform complex maneuvering changes and lateral maneuvers when entering the target area, greatly improving the penetration capability and strike accuracy. At this stage, any anti-missile weapon system is difficult to effectively intercept. In addition, it has a strong strike power, with a terminal speed of up to 3,400 meters per second. Such a high speed will cause a fatal blow to the enemy ship even if there is no explosion, so it is also called the "aircraft carrier killer."
