In order to further strengthen the construction of the school public health system and improve the capabilities and quality of the primary and secondary school health work team, the Nanyang Municipal Education Commission held a city-wide primary and secondary school health work business training meeting on the afternoon of August 15, 2024. The school health staff, primary and secondary school doctors, and health specialists of the education and sports bureaus of each county (city, district) participated in the training.

Zhang Changlin, director of the Ophthalmology Department of the East Campus of the First Affiliated Hospital of the Medical College, gave a special lecture on the prevention and control of myopia among children and adolescents at the training session with his professional and easy-to-understand explanation method.

At the beginning of the lecture, Director Zhang Changlin started with the most basic explanation of "understanding the eyes". Through vivid pictures and concise and clear language, he made the originally obscure eye structure clear and easy to understand.

Then, Director Zhang Changlin focused on the key issue of "how to detect myopia in time". He listed a series of common myopia symptoms, such as blurred vision, squinting, frequent blinking, etc., and explained in detail how to preliminarily judge whether myopia is present based on these symptoms, so that the participants could more intuitively feel the importance of detecting myopia in time.

When discussing the "common causes of myopia", Director Zhang Changlin made an in-depth analysis, from genetic factors to bad eye habits, from environmental influences to unbalanced nutrition, etc. He particularly emphasized the harm to the eyes caused by long-term close-up use of the eyes, excessive use of electronic devices, lack of outdoor activities and other common bad eye habits in modern life.

In the session of "How to Prevent Myopia", Director Zhang Changlin gave a series of practical and effective suggestions. At the end of the lecture, Director Zhang Changlin also shared books on eye knowledge, providing more learning resources for those participants who are eager to learn more about eye health.

Director Zhang Changlin has been engaged in clinical ophthalmology for more than 20 years. Since 2016, he has led the department team to launch an eye disease survey among residents in the area and conducted more than 200 free clinics.

Since 2018, he has been carrying out prevention and treatment work for myopia and amblyopia among children in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in his jurisdiction.

In 2020, he was selected as a member of the Henan Province Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Myopia in Children and Adolescents Expert Delegation.The only doctor selected in Nanyang City with long-term clinical work experience.
