In April of this year, Nintendo officially shut down the 3DS online servers, but some players did not choose to quit and continued to stay on the servers. Four months later, there seems to be only one player left on the server, the last person to play 3DS online in 2024.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar, player "Fishguy6564" talked about his idea to delay the demise of the 3DS servers. He said that at first he was unsure if they would be able to stay when Nintendo shut down the servers. But then he realized that he was not disconnected and the robots in Mario Kart 7 were still racing on the track, so he started testing how long he could hold out.

To ensure he doesn't lose connection, he plugs his 3DS into a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) and places it in a cabinet where no one can touch it. If all goes well, he can keep it going forever.
