On August 14, 2024, Xiaomi Pengpai OS launched a new round of OTA push. The most important upgrade point is to improve the basic fluency of the system and greatly optimize the application startup time. Officially, the latest version of Xiaomi Pengpai OS third-party application cold start can achieve almost 0ms response.
Xiaomi flagship users must be curious about whether the latest version of Xiaomi Surge OS can really improve the response speed of applications immediately? Compared with the old version, how much is the improvement? Let's test it together.
The latest version of Pengpai OS was tested and the response speed was greatly improved
In order to intuitively compare the changes after the upgrade of the new Xiaomi Pengpai OS, PChome prepared two Xiaomi 14 Ultras with the same configuration and model, one equipped with the old system version 1015 and the other equipped with the new system version 1019, for comparative testing.
Before the test, we restored the two phones to factory settings, deleted all pre-installed third-party apps after activating the phones, downloaded 20 commonly used apps, connected to a WiFi network, and kept other settings exactly the same.
After the installation is complete, open all 20 commonly used apps on the two Xiaomi 14 Ultras to avoid heating problems caused by the need for background decompression when opening third-party apps for the first time during the test. After opening, we cleared the background of the two Xiaomi 14 Ultras, restarted them and left them alone for 1 hour.
First, we tested the old and new versions of Xiaomi Pengpai OS, and randomly opened a single APP, from clicking the icon to the time when the APP was fully expanded. We slowed down the screen three times and found that compared with the old version of the system, the new system of Xiaomi Pengpai OS 1019 had a faster startup time for a single third-party APP. When the application filled the full screen, the old system was still animating.
After measuring the startup time of a single third-party app, let's test the total time it takes to open 20 commonly used apps on the old and new versions of Xiaomi Pengpai OS.
The test method is to click on a third-party app to start it, then return to the desktop, and then start the next app until all 20 apps are started, and then calculate the total time. According to actual tests, the total time it takes to start 20 commonly used apps on the new version of Xiaomi Pengpai OS is 21.16 seconds, while the old version is 21.37 seconds. The new system is 0.21 seconds faster, and an average of 0.1 seconds faster for each app.
In addition to the poor overall fluency, many Xiaomi smartphone users who use the old version of Pengpai OS often encounter a major problem in daily use, perhaps the small window often has bugs, the small window video application displays abnormally when switching between horizontal and vertical screens, and the fluency is a bit slow when zooming in. The "Free Window" of Pengpai OS 1019 version has fixed the problem of the small window video application displaying abnormally when switching between horizontal and vertical screens.
In addition, PChome has tested that compared with the old version of the system, when the small window of the Pengpai OS 1019 system is enlarged, the animation is more responsive and smooth, and there is no longer a feeling of procrastination when dragging it down.
What new features are there? When will the update be available?
It is worth noting that in addition to improving the basic fluency of the system, the new version of Pengpai OS also brings many new features and bug optimizations. For example, in order to solve the problem of easy accidental touches when long pressing the lock screen interface, the new version of Pengpai OS has added a "Long Press Lock Screen Edit Style Switch". After turning it off, long pressing in the lock screen state will not trigger the lock screen editing.
In addition, as a system focusing on the Internet of Everything, the new version of Pengpai OS has also specially optimized the CarWith experience, added an update to the CarWith visual experience, redrawn 6 horizontal and vertical car machine styles, including new map cards, music cards, and Xiao Ai classmate dialogue styles, to improve the aesthetics of the interface. New CarWith personalized customization has been added, supporting functions such as setting car machine wallpapers, changing background effects, customizing card sorting, and adding widgets.
Friends who own Xiaomi SU7 can upgrade their Xiaomi phones to the latest Surge OS and experience the excellent experience brought by car-machine interconnection.
At this point, I believe many friends are looking forward to Xiaomi's new Pengpai OS system and hope to use it as soon as possible. So when will the 1019 version of the new Pengpai OS system be pushed? Which mobile phones can experience it first?
According to official data, the new Pengpai OS 1019 will be pushed in three batches. The first batch of models to be upgraded in August will be Xiaomi 14 series, Redmi K70/Pro/E, and Redmi K60 Extreme Edition. Xiaomi 13 series, Xiaomi MIX Fold 3, and Redmi Turbo 3 will be covered in August. Xiaomi Civi 4 Pro and Redmi K60/Pro/E will be covered from mid-to-early September. In addition, Xiaomi also specifically stated that Xiaomi MIX Fold 4, Xiaomi MIX Flip, Redmi K70 Extreme Edition, and Redmi K70 Extreme Champion Edition will follow the upgrade rhythm of the new machine.
It can be found that the new Pengpai OS 1019 version is currently mainly adapted to Xiaomi and Redmi's flagship phones in the past two years. Friends who have sub-flagship phones will need to wait a little longer to experience the new Pengpai OS system.
In summary, through comparative tests, it is not difficult to find that Xiaomi's latest version of Surge OS performs well in terms of cold start time of individual apps, total loading time of 20 apps, and small window fluency, significantly exceeding the previous generation system. This improvement in fluency undoubtedly brings users a smoother operating experience.
In addition, Pengpai OS has also made many improvements in new functions and BUG optimization, such as the new "long press lock screen to edit style switch" function, optimizing the CarWith experience, etc., further improving the system's ease of use and convenience.
Combining these experiences, we can see Xiaomi's continuous innovation and improvement in Pengpai OS. The system's fluency upgrade not only improves user satisfaction, but also demonstrates Xiaomi's unremitting pursuit of user experience. Considering that Pengpai OS 2.0 is already ready to go, this Pengpai OS fluency upgrade may just be the beginning. We have reason to believe that the Pengpai OS system will bring more surprising features and optimizations in the future, and continue to lead the development trend of smart operating systems. Let us wait and see how Xiaomi Pengpai OS will bring users a more colorful smart life experience with its excellent performance and innovative functions.
