On August 13, SAIC Volkswagen’s summer camp named “Star Project” officially opened in Jiading, Shanghai.
This is also a one-day car tour prepared by SAIC Volkswagen for the children of the Hope Primary School that it has been supporting for a long time.
After the opening ceremony in the morning, the children first went to the Shanghai Automobile Museum to experience interesting stories related to cars, and then went to SAIC Volkswagen's MEB factory in Anting to observe the modern automobile production process up close and learn about SAIC Volkswagen's 40-year development history.
After the one-day car tour, these 40 teachers and students from eight SAIC Volkswagen Hope Primary Schools in six provinces including Hunan, Yunnan, Henan, Guangxi and Shaanxi will visit the Shanghai Planetarium, Shanghai Zoo, Shanghai Natural History Museum and Ocean Park in the following week to experience the mystery of the scientific world and the magic of nature.
SAIC Volkswagen has been widely involved in public welfare activities in the fields of education, safety, environmental protection, community and culture. Among them, the "Star Project" can be said to be a landmark project of SAIC Volkswagen. Since 2015, SAIC Volkswagen has insisted on carrying out the "Star Project" public welfare activities. The "Star Project" started from Shanghai and has spread to Hunan, Guangxi, Shaanxi and Yunnan to help the development of rural education.
"Every child is like a star in the sky, shining with his or her own unique light." This is the original intention of SAIC Volkswagen's "Star Project" Hope Primary School charity action. Adhering to the equal rights of every student in education is also SAIC Volkswagen's consistent pursuit. SAIC Volkswagen said that every day in the summer camp will be a new starting point for children to explore science, discover themselves, and realize their dreams.
SAIC Volkswagen has always been concerned about the growth and education of Chinese children and teenagers. The "Star Project" was originally aimed at improving the hardware facilities of rural primary schools. In 2023, the "Star Project" ushered in the 2.0 upgrade. SAIC Volkswagen has joined hands with the China Youth Development Foundation to jointly customize and develop STEM courses for different grades.
The course content takes into account the characteristics of rural education, starting from the plants and trees that children are familiar with, and designs various topics. It is worth mentioning that engineers from SAIC Volkswagen also participated in the course development. They incorporated engineering knowledge related to automobiles such as lighting design, vehicle energy, traffic signals, etc. into the course in an easy-to-understand way.
This time, the children also experienced the same course as the Skoda Hope Primary School in Minle Town, Huayuan County, Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, which is to make a solar car. It is reported that this school is a pilot school in the development of SAIC Volkswagen's STEM courses, which means that the children here can enjoy the charm of science courses first.
Making a solar car is usually a topic for lower grade students. It is quick and easy to learn and use. Teacher volunteers start with what science is, allowing children to actively explore the relationship between common scenes around them and science, and experience the relationship between scientific principles and technical engineering.
In this process, a more humane detail is how to decide the groups. The teacher volunteer asked each student to randomly draw a puzzle piece, and the children who could successfully put together a car automatically formed a group. This not only prevented the situation where a child was left alone, but also allowed children of different abilities to form a team to a certain extent, and complete the task with the power of teamwork.
At present, the 12 STEM-themed courses designed by SAIC Volkswagen and teacher volunteers have been fully promoted in the Hope Schools built by SAIC Volkswagen, and will be gradually promoted to more non-aided schools in the future.
As early as 1995, SAIC Volkswagen paid attention to the importance of youth education in the development of underdeveloped areas and began to build Hope Primary Schools in western China. Since 2012, SAIC Volkswagen has donated education funds to western China for five consecutive years and equipped local schools with computer rooms, art rooms and sports equipment.
So far, SAIC Volkswagen has donated more than 16 million yuan to the "Star Project" and has built 11 Hope Schools in Hunan, Henan, Guangxi, Hubei, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Yunnan and other places, benefiting more than 1,000 young people every year, with a total of more than 21,000 beneficiaries. The school buildings are equipped with sports facilities, libraries, voice classrooms, computer rooms and other supporting facilities, providing children with more efficient learning tools and richer learning resources.
Not only in rural education, but also in many places where SAIC Volkswagen has established production bases across the country, this company is practicing the responsibility of sustainable citizenship. In the future, SAIC Volkswagen will continue to practice corporate social responsibility, integrate the concept of sustainable development with development strategy, and integrate the DNA of public welfare into every key action of the company, making Volkswagen more outstanding.
