Thank you very much for the generous rewards from my friends. Your affirmation of my recommendations and my understanding has always been the motivation for me to persevere. Thank you very much!
In the 1990s, VCD and DVD players became the most fashionable form of entertainment on the market, and even spawned video halls with unique characteristics of the times, which became a window for people born in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s to understand the world.
In the era when video halls were the most popular, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Sammo Hung and Stephen Chow were all top stars in the video era, which is also the main reason why people often say that they owe Stephen Chow and Jackie Chan a movie ticket. In 1984, two of the three major Kung Fu movie stars and their junior brother Yuen Biao filmed the often-touted masterpiece "Wheels on the Run".
"Wheels On Meals" is directed by Sammo Hung, co-written by Tang King-sang and Lee Jiong-kai, and stars Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao, Laura Fonnner,The box office revenue was HK$21.465 million that year. Not only did it fail to replicate Jackie Chan's success in "Project A" the previous year,Even with the support of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, he was not able to beat Jet Li's "Shaolin Kid".
Fortunately, Jackie Chan's movies not only rely on the Hong Kong box office, but also the international box office."Wheels on the Run" grossed a total of $20 million worldwide, ranking 12th on the Hong Kong film box office charts in the 1980s., finally regained some face for Jackie Chan.
On Douban, 80,000 people gave it a score of 7.9. However, it was only nominated for Best Action Director (another saying is Best Costume Design) at the 4th Hong Kong Film Awards.
When I was a kid, "Wheels on the Run" was one of the best movies of my childhood. The fight between Jackie Chan and JetBenny, and the scene of the three brothers holding sabers, were some of my best childhood memories. Some movies can no longer be watched after they become masterpieces, because from today's more mature perspective, the overall story of "Fast Food Trucks" is extremely ugly and as flashy as a castle in the air.
Although "Trucks on Wheels" is a movie starring Jackie Chan, the director of the film is Sammo Hung, which means that the film should be called a Sammo Hung movie, but it has the most common shortcomings of Jackie Chan's movies.
The overall story is extremely simple, andThe lack of an extremely important core driving force makes the whole story look extremely loose. There is no reason that can connect the whole story. The whole story looks extremely deliberate and artificial. The comedy scenes in the movie also lack the smoothness and naturalness of Jackie Chan's movies, and are full of awkward jokes that don't fit in. Coupled with Yuen Biao's uncool look and Sammo Hung's pretentious performance, the whole movie seems quite stupid.
However, the most eye-catching part of this film is Jackie Chan's action fighting, but it lacks the twists and turns and life-threatening feeling that are common in Jackie Chan's action films, so that except for the battle between Jackie Chan and Benny, there is no action scene worth remembering in the whole movie.
Therefore, in summary,The once hit movie completely fell from its pedestal after the audience's eyes grew up, and it turned from a hit movie into a piece of trash.
The following is a serious spoiler. For those who haven't seen it, I suggest you go watch the film first and then watch Luoxue's recommendation! (For those who don't have the channel, you can click Luoxue on the menu homepage to watch the movie)
1. The plot is bad
From the story itself,"Trucks on Wheels" can only be regarded as mediocre. There is a sense of boredom engraved in the bones. This boredom, with boring coincidences and boring performances, presents a rare sense of a bad movie.
The plot of the movie itself is extremely simple. In fact, Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao, who run a fast food truck business in Italy, met a girl, Su Weiya, who looks like a princess and makes a living by pretending to be a prostitute and stealing. Unexpectedly, someone found Sammo Hung at this time and offered a high price to find Su Weiya and her mother, while another group of people were also looking for her.
By coincidence, Su Weiya always meets Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao or Sammo Hung when she is in danger. Finally, they discover that Su Weiya is the illegitimate daughter of the Earl, and the Earl's brother wants to organize Su Weiya and her daughter to inherit the estate. After a fight, everyone successfully defeated the villain and Su Weiya successfully inherited the estate.
The first half of "Wheels On The Road" is about "persuading prostitutes to become good women", and the second half is about bravely fighting against villains. The whole story seems extremely childish and boring. At the same time, the movie is full of coincidences, and such coincidences make the whole movie successful. (Later, Jackie Chan followed suit and made "Dragon Brothers", which can also be said to be the prequel to "Dragon Brothers".)
For example, after Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao met Su Weiya in the mental hospital, they met Su Weiya again at the fast food truck business. She happened to be chased for money and hid in their car. After going home with her, Su Weiya ran away with the money. As a result, they met Su Weiya outside the bar who was almost caught by the police. At this time, they happened to encounter the villains catching people again.
It can be said that all the story plots of this film are extended based on the point of coincidence, and the plot itself lacks an internal driving force.
The movie doesn't originally have a complete, complex, and interesting story that can be told in one sentence, but in order to make the story more interesting, many contradictions are forcibly created to make a boring story complicated.
But if we look back at Jackie Chan's films such as "Shinjuku Incident", "Project A 2", and "Project Eagle", we will find that the protagonist of the movie must have a very clear goal. The whole movie is also moving forward for this goal, but in the process of moving forward, there are more choices, which also enriches the movie itself.
The lack of this driving force in "Fast Food Trucks" makes people feel extremely twisted and scattered. The film lacks a clear theme, which makes the film have no focus at all.
For example, the core of John Wick is revenge, the core of Police Stories is the pursuit of justice, and the core of Shaolin Soccer is competition. So what is the core of Trucks on Wheels?
The film combines elements of brotherhood, love, comedy, suspense, action, etc.The forced mixing of these elements makes the film lack a core argument and aggravates the scattered feeling of the film's plot. You say the movie is mainly about brotherhood, but Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao have no chemistry at all; you say the movie is mainly about love, but the love in the movie is extremely vague; you say the movie is a comedy, but the laughs are not dense, which makes the whole movie extremely awkward and twisted!
At the same time, the large number of meaningless comedy scenes in the film also increase the film's sense of laxity.
For example, the Italian biker played by Ke Shouliang, Ng Man-tat mocking Jackie Chan and his idiocy, and Wu Ma's pendulum, all have absolutely no meaning and are just for the sake of being funny, far worse than the funny designs in Project A 2. The food trucks also play no role in the movie and have a very weak connection with the title.
However, corresponding to the plot is the exaggeration and boredom of the actors' performances.
2. Contrived performance
The whole movie is not a nonsensical comedy, butHowever, the performances of almost everyone in the movie are full of a sense of inexplicable affectation.
This is especially true of Sammo Hung's character Bobby, who should have a sense of naivety, but Sammo Hung's performance did not bring out this feeling at all. Instead, he looked silly, but this silly feeling was not as moving as Jackie Chan's brother in "Heart of Dragon", which made the character of Bobby feel boring, redundant, and even disgusting.
He is neither like Mr. Bean nor like Tang Ren in "Detective Chinatown". He has the stupidity of a normal person pretending to be stupid.
Yuen Biao's character should have been a complex and entangled feeling of extroversion and inferiority, but in the movie he just showed an extremely ordinary character. Compared with Liang Kuan in "Once Upon a Time in China", David in this film has very little depth and his performance is extremely superficial.
Similarly, because the script and story were not good enough, Jackie Chan's performance in this film was also greatly restricted, and he had no autonomy in his film.As a result, Jackie Chan's Thomas has no room to play. There is no opportunity for Jackie Chan to show his comedic talent and life-threatening actions.
The boring and scattered story, the mediocre character design, and the artificial performances of the actors make this movie difficult to match its title of childhood masterpiece. But fortunately, even if there is not a single good part in the whole movie, Jackie Chan's action movies still maintain a very high presentation effect.
Jackie Chan doesn't get to show off much in this film, but Sammo Hung gave all the most important action scenes in the film to Jackie Chan.Under restrictions and constraints, Jackie Chan still presented extremely exciting action scenes.
For example, when Jackie Chan sneaked into the castle and prepared to rescue Su Weiya, he used two wooden sticks and a rope claw to climb up the wall in one step from the outer wall through the hole in the wall. This showed Jackie Chan's extremely strong physical coordination ability and also tried to increase the difficulty of the action scenes in the movie.
Apart from that, the most exciting action scene in the film is the final battle between Jackie Chan and Jet Benny.
Faced with Benny's fast and explosive movements, Jackie Chan abandoned his usual comedy action style and insteadHe uses a head-on approach to confront Benny head-on, and because of the rhythm and strength of the actions, it is full of a very realistic sense of martial arts.It is also the most classic action sequence in the film. However, in terms of visual perception, Luo Xue believes that the action design of this film is not as exciting as the action scenes in "Drunken Master 2", which is also not as playful.
This is also the core reason why "Drunken Master 2" swept Sammo Hung, Jet Li, and Stephen Chow and won the Best Action Design Award that year.
In general,If you don't care about the plot and just want to enjoy the visual popcorn and just want to watch the action scenes, Luoxue still recommends this movie. But if you have high requirements for the plot, and judge this movie by the standards of "Project Condor", "Police Stories", "Drunken Master 2" and "Project A 2", then there is no doubt that "Wheels On The Road" is a bad movie.
