The film tells the story of Gao Zhilei (Xu Zheng), who turned the love of his family into the courage to move forward after losing his job, and chose to become a food deliveryman to start anew. Gao Zhilei's "walking out of the retrograde" actually started with "changing his mentality". The keyword in the first half of the film is "life", and the keyword in the second half is "vision of life", which is the beginning of Gao Zhilei's transformation.

When talking about why he chose to direct and act in this work that explores the midlife crisis, Xu Zheng said: "After deciding on this theme, I had the urge to direct this play. At that time, I felt that I couldn't direct and act at the same time. But after the character was shaped, I felt that the protagonist's situation of 'midlife crisis' was very similar to my own, so I participated in the work of the actor again."
Xu Zheng admitted: "I find it very difficult to make movies nowadays, because it is impossible to make a movie that satisfies everyone. After watching the movie, everyone's feelings are different. Different audiences will see different details and have different expectations." He also hopes that the audience can give real feedback after watching the movie, and accept both good and bad reviews.
It is understood that in order to ensure the sense of reality and immersion, the photography team of "Reverse Life" adopted a documentary style of shooting, trying not to deliberately use lighting to increase the realism of the film. At the same time, they also used light and flexible photography equipment to better capture the working moments and life details of the deliverymen.
