Meet the peach garden and cool Yaozhi River. Recently, at a press conference organized by the Xiangyang Municipal People's Government, it was introduced that the 2024 Baokang Yaozhi River Half Marathon, organized by the Baokang County Party Committee, the County Government, the County Party Committee Propaganda Department, and the County Culture and Tourism Bureau, will be held on August 25. It is reported that this is also the third time that the village has organized a marathon event.
Yaozhi River is named after Emperor Yao’s efforts to control mountains and water. It is located at the junction of Xiangyang, Shiyan and Shennongjia. The area is picturesque with beautiful mountains and clear waters, birds singing and flowers blooming. It is rich in tourism resources and has convenient transportation. The four colors of “ancient, red, green and strange” complement each other, forming the characteristics of the development of Yaozhi River’s tourism industry. Yaozhi River has an average altitude of more than 1,600 meters, a forest coverage rate of up to 95%, an average summer temperature of 20℃-24℃, and an annual average temperature of 16.7℃. It is the “Cool Capital” of Xiangyang that attracts tourists from all directions with its “ecological coolness”, forming the unique cool summer of Yaozhi River, with a beautiful rural scenery like “villages in the garden, water in the green, houses in the flowers, and people in the scenery”.
Although Yaozhihe is a remote and high mountain village, it has three national 4A scenic spots, namely Yaozhihe, Yeren Cave and Yeren Valley, as well as 10 museums. It has built a "three-zone" integrated development model of "mining area, mountainous area and residential area" into a resort area, and has more than 20 national honors.
In recent years, Yaozhi River has firmly adhered to the concept of ecological priority, insisted on taking the path of green development, and vigorously supported the development of the eco-tourism industry. The unique geographical location and climatic conditions have made Yaozhi River a summer resort and one of the few places in the country that can host marathon events in summer.
The registration for the 2024 Baokang Yaozhihe Half Marathon started on July 1 and will be held on August 25 this year. It is the third marathon held in the village. Compared with previous years, this year's half marathon and health and fun run events are set up. On the basis of fully considering the capacity and safety of the event, the scale of participation has been expanded to 3,000 people. Among them, 2,000 people will participate in the half marathon and 1,000 people will participate in the health and fun run. In terms of award setting, the prize money range has also been expanded from the top 50 runners to the top 100 runners.
Sun Kailin, Party Secretary of Yaozhihe Village, Maqiao Town, Baokang County, introduced that all athletes participating in the 2024 Baokang Yaozhihe Half Marathon and Healthy Fun Run can bring two family members to visit the four scenic spots including Yaozhihe Tourist Resort, Sanjie Dongtian, Yeren Valley and Yeren Cave for free before July 31, 2025 with their competition bibs.
