Original title: Thailand's Constitutional Court rules to remove Setiawan from office as Prime Minister

On August 14th local time, the Constitutional Court of Thailand read out the verdict on the qualifications of the current Prime Minister Setiawan. The court ruled that Phichit's appointment as Minister of the Prime Minister's Office in this year's cabinet reshuffle violated the law. As Prime Minister, Setiawan was directly responsible and needed to terminate his post. He will no longer serve as Prime Minister of Thailand.

On May 16, 40 of the 250 members of the Thai Senate jointly submitted a petition to the Constitutional Court requesting the termination of Prime Minister Settha and then-Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Phichit.

The lawmakers who signed the petition believed that Phichit was appointed as the Minister of the Prime Minister's Office in the cabinet reshuffle, which violated the law. As Prime Minister, Settha was directly responsible and should be terminated from his post. Therefore, they asked the Constitutional Court to review and rule. On May 21, Phichit resigned as the Minister of the Prime Minister's Office.
