As the largest, highest-level and most in-depth industry event in the robotics industry, the 2024 World Robot Conference will be held on August 21 at the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone Beiren Yi Chuang International Convention and Exhibition Center.

On August 13, Beijing Business Daily reporters learned from the conference press conference that this conference will hold a three-day main forum and 25 special forums, and 416 domestic and foreign guests will discuss the cutting-edge development trends in the field of robots. A robot expo will also be held during the conference, and 169 companies will exhibit more than 600 innovative products, including more than 50 first-time new products. In addition, according to institutional forecasts, by 2035, the humanoid robot market is expected to reach US$154 billion, or about RMB 1,103.73 billion.

More than 20 humanoid robots, the most ever

The World Robot Conference has entered its tenth year since its first session in 2015. In the past ten years, the World Robot Conference has strengthened cooperation with the scientific and industrial communities of various countries, and has effectively promoted the research and development and industrialization of robot technology.

With the theme of "Co-cultivating New Quality Productivity and Sharing an Intelligent New Future", this conference has invited 169 leading domestic and foreign robot manufacturers, well-known companies and industry newcomers including ABB, KUKA, SMC and TESLA to participate in the exhibition. Among them, more than 60 companies will make their debut and more than 50 new products will be launched.

In all previous robot conferences, the robot expo is the most popular part for the audience, where they can watch robots show off their skills and interact with them. It is understood that this expo will set up a cutting-edge innovation exhibition area for the first time, inviting universities and research institutes to showcase a number of cutting-edge innovation achievements in the experimental research and development stage, such as six-legged guide robots and flying robots, to provide ideas for the future application and innovation of robots.

In addition, humanoid robots have been a hot topic in the field of robotics in recent years. This year's expo will welcome more than 20 humanoid robots, the most ever. Some of them can run and jump over obstacles, some can perform delicate operations, and some can perform talents. There are also many "hidden skills" that will be revealed at the expo, bringing a futuristic human-machine interactive experience to the audience.

The number of international participants increased by 9.7% year-on-year

In addition to experiencing future life at the high-tech expo, visitors can also listen to the latest thoughts of big names on industry trends at forum events.

The 2024 World Robot Conference has invited 26 international organizations to support it, setting a new record, and the number of international participants has increased by 9.7% compared with last year. 416 global robotics experts, representatives of international organizations, well-known scientists, and entrepreneurs will gather together to exchange cutting-edge ideas.

According to the organizers, the main forum of the conference has three chapters: "Industrial Development", "Collaborative Innovation" and "Technological Innovation", which provide in-depth insights into the future trends of the robotics industry and technology. The special forums focus on international cooperation, technological innovation, industrial development and collaborative innovation, and are closely linked to the main forum. More than 20 forums, including the "China Robot Venture Capital Summit Forum" and the "Embodied Intelligence Industry Trends and Future Development Forum", will expand the topic extension of the conference and explore a broader industrial space. Supporting activities will focus on themes such as project implementation, talent introduction, technical research, and supply and demand docking. The World Robot Cooperation Organization will also hold a number of international events such as the "Sustainable Development Forum" and the "China-Korea Forum" during the conference.

It is understood that the 2024 World Robot Competition Beijing Championship will be launched during this conference. As the "Olympics" of the robotics industry, the World Robot Competition combines professionalism, interactivity and viewing pleasure, aiming to continuously stimulate the scientific and technological research and development potential of the robotics industry and become an important force in promoting the cultivation of innovative, application-oriented and skilled talents around the world.

This Beijing Championship will have more than 13,000 elite racers from more than 7,000 teams from more than 10 countries around the world competing on site. In addition, the "Top Ten Competition Innovation Results of the 2024 World Robot Competition" will be released during the conference to fully encourage the growth and development of innovative talents.

As the permanent venue of the World Robot Conference, the Economic and Technological Development Zone has also achieved fruitful results in the development of the robot industry in recent years. At the press conference, Wang Lei, deputy director of the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee, said that since the Economic and Technological Development Zone hosted the conference for ten years, it has more than 100 robot ecological enterprises, half of which are specialized and new enterprises. Leading humanoid robot companies and robot key component companies such as UBTECH have settled in, with an output value of nearly 10 billion yuan, accounting for half of the city's robot industry, and basically forming a full industrial chain system of robots covering chips, operating systems, core components, complete machines and application scenarios.

Humanoid robots open up a new market worth trillions of dollars

As an important field of future industry, the robotics industry has broad development prospects and has attracted market attention. Industry insiders pointed out that humanoid robots are the easiest robots to adapt to the world, and 2024 is expected to be the first year of commercialization of humanoid robots. International investment bank Goldman Sachs predicts that by 2035, the market size of humanoid robots is expected to reach US$154 billion, or about RMB 1,103.73 billion.

Creating a humanoid robot is not an easy task. How can a robot not only "look like a human", but also see, hear, walk steadily, and touch accurately like a human, and achieve sensory interaction with the physical world? From servo motors to reducers, from materials to software, from chips to algorithms... it can be said that every link in the humanoid robot industry chain is an arena for scientific and technological strength.

In my country, the layout of related industries is accelerating. The "Guiding Opinions on the Innovation and Development of Humanoid Robots" (hereinafter referred to as the "Opinions") issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in October last year pointed out that it is necessary to accelerate the innovation and development of my country's humanoid robot industry to provide support for building a strong manufacturing country, a strong network country and a digital China. The "Opinions" also gave a "timetable" for the development of humanoid robots in my country: by 2025, the humanoid robot innovation system will be initially established, and a number of key technologies such as "brain, cerebellum, and limbs" will achieve breakthroughs to ensure the safe and effective supply of core components; by 2027, the technical innovation capabilities of humanoid robots will be significantly improved, forming a safe and reliable industrial chain supply chain system, building an internationally competitive industrial ecology, and reaching the world's advanced level in comprehensive strength.

In November last year, the first provincial humanoid robot innovation center in China was established, and on April 27 this year, the self-developed universal humanoid robot mother platform "Tiangong" was released, which can achieve a stable running speed of 6km/h, and can also make agile adjustments to gait in the event of stumbling, stepping into empty space, etc. In May this year, my country's first national and local co-built humanoid robot innovation center was unveiled in Pudong, Shanghai. Its self-developed humanoid robot "Qinglong" is 185 cm tall and weighs 80 kg. It has up to 43 active degrees of freedom and can use tools to pick sesame seeds from millet...

The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting on July 30 and pointed out that it is necessary to cultivate and expand emerging industries and future industries. It is necessary to vigorously promote high-level scientific and technological self-reliance, strengthen key core technology research and development, and promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries. Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shandong, Anhui and other places have launched a "roadmap" for the development of humanoid robots this year, clarifying relevant measures around key core technology research and development, product research and development, high-level talent training, and strengthening terminal products.

In the next step, we must push for more policies to be implemented and effective, further create a social environment for innovative development, increase cooperation between industry, academia and research, promote the gradual improvement of the humanoid robot industry chain and the gradual expansion of its application scope, build an internationally competitive industrial ecology, and promote my country to move faster, more steadily and better in the new track of humanoid robots.
