China Youth Daily Client News (China Youth Daily, China Youth Network reporter Li Yuanyuan) "I am very willing to work with Chinese companies for a long time, and I also want to communicate more deeply with Chinese friends, so I need to learn Chinese more deeply." On August 12, Ahmad Rishid from China Power Construction Pakistan Qasim Power Generation Co., Ltd. attended the 2024 World Youth Development Forum in Beijing. After the opening ceremony of the forum, he went to Beijing Language and Culture University with his Chinese colleagues from China Power Construction to meet his "Chinese teachers".
Rashid joined the Qasim project in November 2021 as the business manager of the Islamabad office. It is reported that the Qasim project is jointly invested and constructed by China Power Construction and the Qatari Royal Fund, with a total investment of more than US$2 billion. It is the only Sino-foreign cooperative development project among the "corridor" projects developed in the same batch. "Working in such a Chinese-invested power plant is a very good opportunity for me." Rashid said that the installed capacity of this project accounts for about 3% of Pakistan's total installed power capacity, but the annual power generation once accounted for 5%-10% of the country. This volume plays a vital role in Pakistan.
At the beginning, Ruishid's work was often troubled by language. "Some documents at work are in Chinese, and I often need to consult with my Chinese colleagues." Until the launch of the "Dream Silk Road" Chinese Club project, his troubles gradually decreased. It is understood that the project focuses on the application of Chinese in teaching, combining the development needs of young employees with the needs of enterprises, achieving the unity of professionalism, practicality and fun, and creating a new model of international Chinese education. The course is taught online in Chinese by teachers from Beijing Language and Culture University, and China Power Construction Group is the first implementation unit of the project.
As a representative of the local young students in this Chinese course, Rashid said that he felt very cordial during his visit to Beijing Language and Culture University, just like returning to his "alma mater". Song Rui, secretary of the Joint Youth League Working Committee of the China Power Construction Pakistan Qasim Project, said that the "Dream Silk Road" Chinese Club project has been well received by many students including Rashid. "One is the improvement of language, and the other is the understanding of Chinese culture. This course is equivalent to enlightenment, giving them some inspiration and allowing them to better understand Chinese culture." Song Rui said.

"Generally, the textbooks are all about 'What time do you go to class?' But we teach them 'What time do you go to work?'" Professor Su Yingxia, Dean of the School of Applied Chinese at Beijing Language and Culture University, said that when teaching Pakistani students, they will teach them in accordance with their aptitude, such as setting up as many dialogue scenes as possible at work so that they can apply what they have learned. "When he communicated with the Chinese in Chinese, I believe that the relationship was brought closer at once." Su Yingxia said that language communication will also promote mutual understanding among the people, which is of particular significance.
Rashid said that after learning Chinese for a period of time, he can not only understand some simple Chinese, but also recognize some Chinese materials. "This course is very helpful for my work." Rashid said with emotion.
"The first Chinese course has 36 class hours, which can serve as an introduction for Pakistani students." Zhang Huishuai, head of the Youth League Committee of China Power Construction Group Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., said that if they want to truly master Chinese, they need to practice more in their daily lives. In addition, he also looks forward to holding more courses in Pakistan to satisfy the students' "curiosity" for Chinese.
It is understood that after joining the Qasim project, Rishid not only studied Chinese seriously and completed daily business work with high quality, but also made outstanding contributions to the cooperation and training of China-Pakistan youth, deeply participated in the "Dream Silk Road" youth development plan, and established close communication with the Pakistani Prime Minister's Youth Affairs Office to promote youth cooperation based on the Qasim project. Because of this, he got the opportunity to represent the company in the World Youth Development Forum. "I am looking forward to dialogue and exchanges with young people from other countries." Rishid said.
