It’s time for the annual “half-year performance” competition again.

Recently, the "instant noodle king" Uni-President Enterprises China (hereinafter referred to as "Uni-President") 0220.HK, share price HK$6.42, market value HK$27.73 billion) handed in its report card for the first half of 2024. The financial report shows that in the first half of 2024, the company's revenue was about 15.45 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6%; the profit attributable to the company's equity holders was about 966 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.2%.

The reporter of Daily Economic News noted that among the revenue of over 15 billion yuan, the beverage business carried the banner of unified revenue, with revenue of 10.024 billion yuan in the first half of 2024, an increase of 8.3% year-on-year. In contrast, the food business, which mainly focuses on instant noodles, had revenue of about 4.947 billion yuan in the first half of the year, an increase of 0.9% over the same period last year.

At present, fast food, pre-prepared meals and other products are constantly being innovated, attracting the attention of office workers and lazy homebodies. More players are pouring into the convenient food market, and instant noodles are becoming increasingly difficult to sell. Competition in the beverage market, another "main force" that Uni-President has bet on, is becoming increasingly fierce, and a number of major beverage companies such as Nongfu Spring, Suntory, Wahaha, and Master Kong have also invested heavily.

Against this backdrop, it remains a question whether Uni-President, the "instant noodle king" with a market value of nearly HK$30 billion, can stand out in the next wave of convenience foods and tea drinks.
