On August 12, the reporter learned from Beijing technology company Dongtu Technology that the first automotive-grade time-sensitive network (TSN) switching network chip in my country that was included in the list of domestic automotive chips of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, developed and incubated by it, has recently received an order of 100,000 chips from the National New Energy Vehicle Technology Innovation Center. It will be applied to vehicle gateways on a large scale to support the new generation of autonomous and controllable automotive network communication architecture. This means that the domestically produced automotive-grade TSN chips are about to enter the stage of large-scale application, which will effectively promote the comprehensive promotion and application of domestic chips in the field of new energy vehicles in my country.
In the industrial field, there are many scenarios that are extremely sensitive to time. With TSN chips, the transmission process of control instructions can be controlled within the time accuracy of microseconds. For example, the "sensors" of self-driving cars detect changes in environmental information, make decisions, and issue instructions to the vehicle to accelerate or brake. In this process, once the signal transmission is delayed or stuck, danger may occur. In order to accurately transmit control instruction information "without delay", time-sensitive network chips are used in the "brain" of each self-driving car.
At present, time-sensitive network (TSN) technology has become one of the important evolutionary directions of next-generation network bearer technology in multiple fields such as audio and video transmission, industry, mobile bearer, and vehicle-mounted network. However, in the past, the domestic market TSN chips mainly relied on imports from international manufacturers such as Broadcom and Marvell, and the competition landscape was highly concentrated, leaving a large space for domestic substitution. Under the general trend of localization of chips, independent brands have begun to exert their strength, continuously improving product performance, and gradually ushering in market applications.
In 2021, Neuron, a company in which Dongtu Technology holds a stake, launched the automotive-grade TSN Ethernet switch chip KD6630. It is this series of chips that received the 100,000-piece order this time. This year, Neuron also received strategic investment from FAW, and the two parties will work together to promote the development of my country's independent and controllable automotive-grade chips.
It is understood that the global Ethernet switch chip market is in a period of rapid growth, especially in the field of new energy vehicles, where technological iteration and policy guidance are driving the release of demand for high-speed and high-performance switch chips. The industry predicts that with the large-scale application of domestically produced TSN switch chips, domestic manufacturers will gradually increase their market share and focus on high-end products, actively catching up with the international first-tier echelons.
