Xiao Lang (1917-May 27, 2010), whose real name was Yin Lu, whose courtesy name was Lang, and whose pseudonym was Pingxiang Pavilion Master, was a native of Beijing. He was an outstanding art educator and painter in China. During his lifetime, he was a member of the Chinese Artists Association, honorary vice president of the Tianjin Artists Association, and professor of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. Xiao Lang worshipped the famous painter Wang Xuetao as his teacher, and also received guidance from Qi Baishi, Chen Banding and others. He taught at Beijing Normal University, Hebei Art Normal College, and Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. In 1996, he held solo exhibitions at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, in 1997 at the Guangzhou Art Museum, and in 1998 at the Guangxi Museum and the Exhibition Hall of Tianjin People's Fine Arts Publishing House. He wrote "Xiao Lang's Painting Collection", "Xiao Lang's Drawings for Students", and "How to Draw Freehand Insects".
Most of his flower and bird paintings are freehand, with refined and natural artistic language, concise and vivid images, elegant style, rich and varied colors, light but not thin, clean and bright. He pays attention to the calligraphy interest and bookish atmosphere of the brush and ink. He is good at creating poetic spiritual realms and images, emphasizing the integration of quiet observation and active life into beautiful works of art through the principle of primordialism.
