Adam CraggAdam Clague is an impressionist oil painter from Missouri. Whether Adam paints people, places, or plants, he strives to faithfully capture the beauty of God's creation and communicate that beauty to his audience.
Adam says, "An oil sketch is full of artistic flair and fully captures the likeness of the subject." Adam is a member of the Portrait Society of America, the National Society of Oil and Acrylic Painting, the American Impressionist Society, and is a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America.
Adam has won numerous awards for his work, including the Portraiture Award of Excellence at the 2018 OPA Salon Show, Best of Show at the 2016 American Impressionist Society National, and 2nd Honor Award at the 2014 PSoA International.
His paintings have been exhibited at the Salmagundi Club in New York and the European Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona, Spain, among other places.
As a full-time artist, Adam enjoys sharing his experiences through workshops and online video courses. Highlighting his impressionistic oil painting Orange, Adam said: "When I positioned the light so that the center of this Caracara orange glowed like lava, I knew what my next painting would be."
Adam received his MFA from Pensacola Christian College, where he studied with Brian Jekel. It was during college that Adam met his wife, fellow painter Andrea Orr Clague. The couple now lives near Kansas City, Missouri, with their sons, Gideon and Jalen.
His recent achievements include the Portrait Society of America 2019 International Portrait Competition Award of Excellence, the Portrait Society of America 2019 Portrait Art Conference Teacher Mentoring Award, and the National Society of Oil and Acrylic Painters 2020 Best Image Award for the Best Small Works Show in the United States.
