Yu Yaqi introduced Taiyuan's history and culture to fans through her mobile phone.
On July 28, the launching ceremony of the fourth season of the "Splendid Taiyuan is in fashion" promotional event was held. As a special guest of this event, the internet celebrity "Shanxi Yu Deshui" gave a keynote speech entitled "Using Culture to Empower Splendid Taiyuan", which attracted more attention.
What kind of internet celebrity is this? Recently, the reporter approached "Yu Deshui from Shanxi" to listen to her story.
I'm an insider.
Before interviewing "Yu Deshui from Shanxi", the reporter had been judging that the "Yu Deshui" in red in the video might have studied history, otherwise how could she know so many details about Taiyuan's past; or she might have studied broadcasting, otherwise how could she be so eloquent in front of the camera.
In the drizzle on the day of the "Beginning of Autumn", I saw "Yu Deshui from Shanxi", wearing a red top, casual pants, and a pair of slippers, simple but exquisite, casual and lazy. She always introduces herself. She is in her 30s, her real name is Yu Yaqi, her ancestral home is not Taiyuan, but she grew up in Taiyuan, she studied management, has been engaged in the self-media industry for several years, and is currently the general manager of Shanxi Buku Culture Media Co., Ltd.
After years of working in the workplace, she founded a cultural media company with several like-minded friends in 2019 when the short video app Douyin was just gaining popularity. They spent four months figuring out some of the tricks.
The earliest client was a well-known restaurant in the provincial capital. Yu Yaqi and her partners were responsible for operating the Douyin account of the restaurant. Yu Yaqi, who is good at discovering data from management and analyzing answers from data, accurately touched the main consumer groups of the restaurant and discovered the "empathy points" in their lives. With a targeted approach, Yu Yaqi and her partners continuously launched related works in the form of short dramas, quickly grasped the psychology of these consumers, and then led the restaurant to achieve continuous improvement in business. "In just two months, we have increased their Douyin fans to nearly 600,000! Is it okay?" Yu Yaqi asked proudly.
After that, Yu Yaqi and her partners continued to work hard and expanded their business to the Yellow River, doing planning and publicity for an educational enterprise in Shaanxi Province, achieving good results. Later, they expanded their business to the Yangtze River, taking root in Shanghai and making great progress. Currently, Yu Yaqi's company is developing very smoothly in Shanghai.
Although she has only been in the industry for five years, Yu Yaqi believes that she is already an insider.
Targeting cross-border events
Even though she calls herself an "insider" in new media operations, Yu Yaqi is an "outsider" when it comes to the field of history and culture. She has rarely been involved in it before, let alone studied it. So, when talking about the "Shanxi Yu Deshui" she is currently operating, she said it is a cross-border thing.
Why cross-border? Yu Yaqi just wanted to fight for her reputation, fight for her reputation and make a voice for Shanxi and Taiyuan.
Around May or June 2023, Yu Yaqi was communicating with colleagues from other provinces and cities due to business needs. Many people could not believe that her company was a Taiyuan company. "In their opinion, smog, coal, coal bosses... these are the labels of Shanxi." Whenever encountering such a situation, Yu Yaqi always tried her best to introduce Shanxi and Taiyuan to her colleagues. "I must tell them that the place where I grew up is not what they think, they must know."
Later, this idea became stronger and stronger, and she had the idea of introducing Shanxi and promoting Taiyuan.
High video quality
In Shanxi's self-media circle, there are many people who work on history, culture and tourism, including some big Vs, who seem to have talked about Shanxi's extremely brilliant history and rich cultural relics. Yu Yaqi set her personal label as "seeing the big from the small", starting with a place name, a street, and then constantly expanding and extending to find the relationship between this place and home, country, and the world.
The earliest work was created in November 2023. At that time, Yu Yaqi drove from Taiyuan to Wuhan, and traveled for more than 10 hours from "Jin" to "Chu". After checking into the hotel, she suddenly thought of the 19-year exile of Duke Wen of Jin more than 2,600 years ago, who wandered around in eight vassal states including Chu until he returned to Jin and achieved hegemony. So, the first Douyin work of "Yu Deshui from Shanxi" was written in one go on the bed in the hotel, wrapped in a quilt, with a mobile phone propped up in the cold weather of Wuhan.
Finally, she took the first step to speak out for Shanxi, and the effect seemed to be OK, but not as good as Yu Yaqi had imagined. "After all, I didn't major in history, and all my previous studies were not related to history and culture. It was difficult for me to run this account, and I had to learn a lot and learn extensively."
Although she is the general manager of a cultural media company and has many talented people under her command, Yu Yaqi clearly distinguishes between public and private affairs. She does not occupy any resources of the company, and "Shanxi Yu Deshui" was completed entirely by her alone.
In order to present the most authentic and comprehensive content to the audience, Yu Yaqi worked tirelessly. She once ran through desolate streets under the scorching sun, just to capture the traces of that moment eroded by time; she also read a lot of historical materials late at night, just to find the most accurate interpretation of a historical event.
Her works are not just simple displays, but also in-depth interpretations and excavations. By consulting a large amount of historical data and visiting experts, scholars and residents, she presents the profound connotations and cultural values behind historical events to the audience. Her explanations are vivid, interesting and fascinating, making the audience feel as if they are at the scene of history and personally feel the changes of time.
Compared with the high productivity of other self-media peers, Yu Yaqi's "output" of works is not high. In nearly a year, she produced 31 pieces, but the "quality" of her works is relatively high.
In a piece about a place name familiar to people in Taiyuan, "Manchuria Tomb", she sorted out the history of Taiyuan in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties through deep excavation and extensive discovery, and brought out the old and new Manchuria cities before Manchuria Tomb, and then brought out the origins of the current Old City Street and New City Street, and finally settled on Manchuria Tomb. The traffic of this piece reached more than 1.2 million.
"Let's start with the old streets and alleys around people. These are the elements that are less visited and I think are more likely to attract people."

The past is not as good as smoke
The output is not high, but the quality is not low. The number of fans is also rising, and it has reached more than 50,000. Yu Yaqi's influence is expanding day by day, and her works have received more hits and likes on major self-media platforms. She has not only made positive contributions to the inheritance and development of local history and culture, but also promoted the promotion and development of the tourism industry in Taiyuan and even Shanxi.
Yu Yaqi took on more social responsibilities. In order to promote the Taiyuan Northern Qi Mural Museum, she devoted herself to studying for 20 days and wrote a manuscript of nearly 10,000 words, and then "slimmed down" it to extract about 15 minutes of text material. Starting with Xu Xianxiu, Yu Yaqi consulted extensive materials and further organized and enriched the stories of Erzhu Rong, Gao Huan and Xu Xianxiu, forming a story about Xu Xianxiu, and extending it to the thinking about life and death, which attracted people's attention.
One person, one cell phone, one red dress, calmly telling the long-forgotten past of Taiyuan people, is Yu Yaqi's style. She likes it and enjoys it. Just like what she mentioned in the keynote speech at the launch ceremony of the fourth season of "Splendid Taiyuan is in the spotlight": "Use culture to promote national self-confidence. We are all born in a blessed land." This is her feeling from the heart.
