Creating new highlights for sustainable utilization of industrial heritage
A few days ago, the reporter walked into the Shougang Park, where workers were busy finishing the interior decoration, electromechanical installation, equipment commissioning and other finishing work at a new blast furnace renovation project. This is the third blast furnace that Shougang has started to renovate after the third and first blast furnaces - the fourth blast furnace.
From a distance, the renovation project not only retains the structure and appearance of the blast furnace, an important industrial relic, but also builds new exhibition and conference halls on the east and north sides that are coordinated with its style, achieving the unity of history and modernity, industrial style and fashion.
According to Yu Hua, design director of Shougang Investment, the No. 4 blast furnace area will be transformed into a comprehensive venue with both conference and exhibition functions, with a total above-ground construction area of 34,500 square meters. The preservation of the No. 4 blast furnace not only continues Shougang's unique industrial style and historical context, but also effectively utilizes land resources and the large space of the No. 4 blast furnace. The venue adopts a two-story structure, which can meet the needs of different types of exhibitions and conferences, and forms a pleasant-sized "peacetime and wartime" exhibition cluster with surrounding exhibition halls, making the No. 4 blast furnace area a new highlight of the sustainable utilization of industrial heritage serving the city's exhibition function.
There are four existing ironmaking blast furnaces in Shougang Park, of which the third and first blast furnaces have been renovated and have become high-end show venues and SoReal science fiction parks for first releases, first shows, and first exhibitions. How is the renovation of the fourth blast furnace different from the two?
Yu Hua said that the renovation of the three blast furnaces emphasized the historical weight, updated with weak intervention, and maintained the original appearance of industrial relics in a large area, achieving a harmonious unity of industrial style and natural landscape. The first blast furnace emphasized the contemporary sense of fashion and technology. While retaining the main outline of the industrial relics, it carried out a major renovation and construction inside, combining scientific and technological means to create a futuristic technological fantasy. The fourth blast furnace emphasized efficiency and stability, retaining the most important blast furnace shell and furnace core, and dismantling the remaining ancillary facilities to free up space to meet the needs of urban conferences and exhibitions.
Urban renewal industry transformation
The renovation of the four blast furnaces will be completed and unveiled during this year's China International Fair for Trade in Services. By then, the overall urban renewal of the northern area of Shougang Park will be fully presented. From fire to ice, from the industrial rust belt to a vibrant show, the renovation of the four blast furnaces is the latest masterpiece of Shougang Park's butterfly-shaped development, and it is also a representative and epitome.
Yuan Fang, a planning and design designer at Shougang Investment, introduced that in recent years, the renovation and construction of Shougang’s old industrial zone has insisted on taking a new path of urban renewal, avoiding large-scale demolition and construction, giving priority to the utilization of existing industrial heritage, and taking the principles of inheriting culture, continuing historical memory, and creating the capital’s distinctive style, giving new vitality to industrial heritage through transformation and upgrading.
At the end of 2010, the steel industry in the old industrial area of Shougang was completely shut down. Shougang organized a design team to conduct a detailed investigation of various industrial resources, and divided them into core protection areas, cultural heritage areas, and style coordination areas at the regional level. A protection strategy with differentiated strategies was proposed to continue the overall characteristics of Shougang. At the same time, a hierarchical preservation catalog was established to determine the four categories of mandatory preservation, recommended preservation, important industrial resources, and usable industrial resources. Different strategies were adopted to revitalize and utilize them in the process of urban renewal. These contents were all included in the control plan of Shougang Park to guide the development and construction of the park, thus maximizing the inheritance of Shougang's industrial style and cultural revival.
While revitalizing the stock space through urban renewal, Shijingshan has strengthened its synergy with Shougang Group, focusing on "sports +", "technology +", and the exhibition industry, promoting regional transformation through industrial reshaping, and building the northern area of Shougang Park into a fashionable emerging consumption base and a science fiction industry cluster. In recent years, major events such as the China International Fair for Trade in Services, the China Science Fiction Conference, the Xishan Yongding River Cultural Festival, and the Ski Jumping World Cup have been held one after another. Industrial spaces such as the Winter Olympics Organizing Committee Office Area, Jin'an Science Fiction Plaza, Oxygen Production Innovation Factory, and Liugonghui have been put into use, with a total of more than 830 companies landing. The annual passenger flow of Shougang Park has exceeded 10 million, and the "industrial rust belt" has accelerated its transformation into an "urban show".
Shougang leads the comprehensive revival of the "Eight Major Factories in Western Beijing"
As the "cradle of the capital's steel industry", Shijingshan was built and developed to serve the "eight major factories in western Beijing". Driven by the revitalization of the new Shougang, Shijingshan is making every effort to promote the overall revitalization of the "eight major factories in western Beijing", create a new landmark for the revitalization of the capital city in the new era, and build the western gate of the capital city at a high level.
To this end, Shijingshan has studied and formulated the industrial development plan and guidance opinions for the "Eight Major Factories in Western Beijing", established an industrial introduction and investment promotion mechanism, and continuously introduced and cultivated high-tech industries. At the same time, it explored the coverage of science and technology innovation policies to the "Eight Major Factories in Western Beijing", supported the priority layout of major projects in the factories of Shougang and other factories that have been included in the Zhongguancun Shijingshan Park, created a number of innovative complexes integrating headquarters office, R&D and design, developed high-end manufacturing, promoted the implementation of major high-tech projects in the "Eight Major Factories in Western Beijing", and revitalized the old factories.
At present, the Beijing Heavy Industry Factory is actively introducing industries such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence, landing the intelligent computing center project in Shijingshan District, building the Beijing Heavy Industry Science and Technology Cultural Industrial Park, and integrating development with the Zhongguancun Virtual Reality Industrial Park. After Beijing Bawi Company stops production in 2023, it will simultaneously start planning for the technology research and development center project and become a pilot for the joint review of the implementation plan for the renovation of old factories. The Capital Special Steel Park focuses on industries such as financial technology to accelerate the implementation of projects. The China Everbright Bank Financial Technology Center has been put into use, and the Capital Special Steel Building is in the investment promotion stage. Other old factory areas are constantly accelerating the introduction of emerging industries.
